Error Corrected: Rextag Reports on Massive Gas Pipeline Leak Thanks to our attentive subscribers, we noticed an error and have corrected it. Please, read the updated information. According to the latest data analysis from Rextag Energy DataLink, a substantial #naturalgas #emission event was identified on April 9, 2024. The emission originated from the Gazprom-operated Krasnodar Krai-Serpukhov #GasPipeline near the Krasnodar and Rostov border in Russia. Using satellite technology provided by Carbon Mapper, the data indicates an emission rate of approximately 37,000 kg per hour, equivalent to 1,8 MMCF per hour. An intriguing component (underground #turbine #flowmeter) was found during a recent issue with a 1-bar gas network. Several years ago, gas operators and engineers used this approach to measure gas flow in high and low-pressure networks because of lacking gas meters at the stations. This method was initially intended to enhance grid calculations by validating the model with actual gas flow values and increasing insight into the gas network. Gas flow values (m3/hr) are just as crucial as gas pressure values in assessing the performance of the gas grid. These measurements are essential for understanding grid capacity and accurately predicting gas demand in our models. With the ongoing #energytransition, we anticipate a year-on-year decrease in gas demand. Consequently, we need deeper insights to ensure our models remain realistic and future-proof. We are actively working on the #digitalization of the #gas #network, and we have recently developed an innovative and robust solution to improve flow measurement in our low-pressure network, particularly in areas without sensors between our natural gas stations and clients. Did you know there are several types of gas flow meters used for measurement? Orifice, Ultrasonic and Positive Displacement meters are the most common types of natural gas meters used on the assets for which Lighthouse Midstream Services provides service. Did you also know that each type of meter uses a different method of measuring gas? Orifice meters infer the gas flow by measuring the pressure drop over an obstruction (orifice). Positive Displacement meters section gas into different segments that fill and empty (displace) as the meter revolves. Each revolution is associated with a specific volume. Ultrasonic meters measure the speed of gas using ultrasounds.
