Accounting Practice vs Industry As someone who speaks to so many CA's at this exact crossroad, I found this article super interesting. If you just finished busy season and at this crossroad.. have a read😉 #ikyk #accountingpractice #career #careerchange #careerchoice #accountacyage
🤔 Choosing between #accounting practice and industry shapes an accountant's career, offering either a broad client base or in-depth company involvement. But how do you know which path to choose? And once you've chosen, can you switch later in your career? Accountancy Age's latest analysis takes a closer look at both career pathways, the skills needed for each role, and the priorities placed on each individual. Thankfully, accountants are not beholden to practice or industry. In fact #accountants who have diversified their experience by working in both realms often find themselves more marketable, possessing a unique blend of skills that are highly valued. However, the ease of transition can depend on the length of time spent away from the original path and the extent to which one has stayed abreast of developments in their initial field. 🌟 Accounting Firms: Let’s talk career paths! Non-linear journeys often lead to the most growth and success, and the accounting profession is no exception. When it comes to navigating your unique path in public accounting, I have three questions for you: 1️⃣ What tools or strategies do you recommend to help accountants discover their strengths and passions in the field? 2️⃣ How do you encourage continuous learning and professional growth within your firm? 3️⃣ What steps can firms take to help team members embrace and thrive on non-traditional career paths in accounting? These questions—and more—are thoughtfully addressed in the article, "Career Paths Aren't Straight and Narrow," by Spiirall’s Senior Learning Designer, Linda Hammers, MS, CPTD, PHR. 🌟 Click here to read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gNVfkM8j #careerpaths #accountants #accountingfirms #learninganddevelopment

When feedback like this comes in, it reminds me why I love working with newly qualified accountants! 🌟 "After seeing Michaela’s LinkedIn post offering career coaching, I decided to reach out as a newly qualified accountant who moved into the industry where my current role was not very fulfilling. I wasn’t sure what I wanted my career to look like or how to get there. Michaela asked questions which got me thinking about what I really wanted. The session with her helped me to identify what I want, and how to form a plan to achieve that. Michaela has a professional approach and has years of experience as an accountant allowing her to assist accountants and finance professionals. I’d highly recommend Michaela as she was so helpful." #careercoaching #newlyqualifiedaccountant #accountants #career

Specialist vs Generalist CPAs 📚 I speak with many CPAs working as generalists and specialists and there progression pathway differs. Working as a CPA in a niche industry vs being a generalist has pros and cons: Pros: - Becoming an industry expert can be seen as more valuable - Industry connections/networking ability - Client loyalty - Progression could be accelerated Cons: - Lack of career flexibility - Economic sensitivity (especially during COVID) - Lack of variety - Fewer opportunities In my opinion, I prefer to see more junior level accountants trying to stay more generalist. This allows them to specialize when they have a better sense of what industries they enjoy working on, later in their career. What do you think is the better choice for accountants? #CPA #PublicAccounting
