In just one year’s time, we had a complete staff turnover. 🤯 It was brutal. 🥵
I learned a lot in that time, and the main thing was this: never compromise your values. 💯
You can find many skilled individuals in the world but that doesn’t make them the right person for your organization. ❌
📝📥📓Despite knowing the HR rules, employment and labor laws, and best practices for hiring and retention, we did not get our culture right until I got clear about my personal values: innovation, candor, growth, volunteerism, independence. 🚀🙏🏼🤨
From there, I was able to finally articulate how I show my values in my work, and thus, how they show up in our organization if I am leading from my authentic place:
1. We challenge the status quo.
2. We are lovingly candid.
3. We value intentional growth.
4. We give back.
5. We believe in freedom.
Our next step is to refine these further as an aligned group who agrees with these basic tenets. We will start by considering the specific examples of how they show up in our day to day lives and specifically identifying the people within our community (team, clients, vendors, referral partners) who demonstrate each of them.
Start small. Start with you. 🙋
