The Arboretum San Antonio will be a transformative project in so many ways. There has been lots of public input. If you are in the industry as an architect, a landscape architect, a landscaper, arborist, grower, policy leader, please take this survey. The back end of this arboretum could be just as important as the public facing side for making changes in San Antonio. This is a link to the survey about the development of the master plan https://lnkd.in/gazWpmrd

A tricky list of needs; DFL to the rescue! At DFL, we love a challenge and a new development at Cox’s Quarry in Bath, was certainly that! 🏠 The plan was for 6 new dwellings with associated car parking and access roads – sounds simple enough! Well, here’s the tricky part: • We needed to include external lighting but also the light coming from the windows in each building • Each building had a different layout, over 3 floors • The buildings weren’t all being built at the same angle • There was a strict 0.5 lux line position due to the ecology • The site was close to a 'Special Area of Consideration' • Also near a 'Site of Special Scientific Interest' • There was a significant population of Lesser Horseshoe Bats nearby ❓ How did we do it? Click the link in our comment below to find out! Buying land is exciting, but before you dive in, there's one crucial step: checking the topography. ️ A topographic map reveals the land's "lay of the land" - its slopes, elevations, and drainage patterns. This knowledge is essential for: 👉 Smart Building Placement: Avoid putting your dream home in a flood zone! 👉 Drainage Management: See where rainwater flows to avoid future headaches. 👉 Understanding Your Surroundings: How will neighboring properties affect your land? Bonus Tip: Don't just look at your own property - check the surrounding area too! By understanding the topography, you'll be making an informed decision about your future property. "The Palisades and Eaton infernos have laid waste to more than 30 structures considered historic in what preservationists believe is the single worst loss of such properties in the region’s history." - Los Angeles Times, 12 Jan 2025. Much has been lost to the devastating L.A. wildfires, including a growing count of significant historic structures. We send our thoughts and support to all Angelenos and our friends at the Los Angeles Conservancy. Montana is no stranger to wildfires, and it's never too early to prepare for the next season. If you haven't already, check out our "Guidelines for Protecting Historic Resources from Wildland Fire." Prepared by Anthony & Associates, Inc. for Preserve Montana and the National Center for Preservation Technology & Training, the guidelines are written for stewards of historic properties, wildland fire managers, and stakeholders who are invested in protecting historic resources from the threat of wildland fires. For the report visit: https://lnkd.in/gc6h7NUG The threats from wildfire to communities, historic resources, and the American landscape are devastatingly real and growing. Let's do our best to proactively plan for the protection of our historic assets from the devastation of wildfire.

Approval for 39 homes in South Lakeland village Great news for the South Lakeland area! Planning permission has been granted for 39 new homes, including 14 affordable homes, in a development south of Haggs Lane in Cartmel Place North West. While we were not involved in the initial stages, our team was brought in by the planning consultants to address concerns raised by the Woodland Trust regarding the impact on a nearby Ancient Semi Natural Woodland. Having assessed the site, adjacent woodland and in particular the topography across the site, we demonstrated that the development would not adversely impact the woodland. In addition to this, with a suitable level of control throughout the construction phase, as well as amendments to the landscape proposals to extend the woodland fringe to create an additional buffer, suitable safeguards could be implemented against negative impacts, allowing this development to proceed. The Scartho Cemetery Chapels are a pair of Grade II listed buildings located within Grimsby Cemetery, Northeast Lincolnshire. In 2022, a sympathetic scheme of restoration and conservation work began to allow the buildings to be restored to serviceable use, whilst reflecting their beautiful Victorian heritage. The project was managed by Gavin Duffy, Senior Architectural Technologist at Northeast Lincolnshire council’s partner, Equans. “We approached J&JW Longbottom Ltd to determine whether the remaining damaged and partial sections of rainwater goods could be replicated to match the original size, profile and fitting arrangement as the original Macfarlane hardware,” said Gavin. “Fortunately, the answer was yes, and it is fair to say that the results exceeded all our expectations. The rainwater goods were faithfully and accurately replicated in every aspect, right down to small details such as the holderbat (bracket) profiles. The re-instatement of the rainwater goods has not only significantly improved the lifespan of the chapels, but also pays tribute to the skill and craftmanship of foundry workers past and present.” Find out more about the project here. https://lnkd.in/eu3ATYF6 #conservation #victorianheritage #scarthocemetery #gradeIIlisted #conservation #restoration #replication #manfarlanefoundry #scarthochapels #grimsby #northeastlincolnshirecouncil #castiron #rainwatergods #foundry #jandjwlongbottom

🏰 Restoration Update: Reviving Historical Integrity! We’re deep into our restoration project, facing unexpected challenges along the way. 🛠️ Have a snoop at our latest progress video! 🎥 Upon removing the old render, we uncovered damage from previous inadequate workmanship and unsuitable materials used. Key efforts included: - Rebuilding two chimneys and part of a gable wall. - Extensive stonework repairs. We're now assessing another wall that may need rebuilding, pending approval from the heritage officer. Despite these obstacles, we've successfully applied the initial base coats to some of the walls. 👀 Keep watching as we tackle these complex tasks, ensuring our heritage stands strong for the future. 📌 #HistoricRestoration#LimeRender#PreservingHeritage#ConstructionExcellence

🌿 Rebuilding Resilient Landscapes After Hurricanes: The Role of Landscape Architects For developers facing the challenging task of restoring properties after a hurricane, landscape architects play a crucial role in assessing damage and rebuilding resilient landscapes. Here’s how they can make a difference: 1 - Hurricane Impact Assessment: Landscape architects provide expertise in evaluating the extent of damage, from soil erosion and root damage to saltwater intrusion. This insight is essential for developing a smart replanting strategy that will thrive in the long term. 2 - Sustainable Replanting: By selecting native, salt- and wind-tolerant plants, landscape architects help developers establish a landscape that can withstand future storms. They also consider drainage and elevation factors to reduce flood risks. 3 - Erosion Control & Soil Restoration: Post-storm, soil integrity is often compromised. Landscape architects can help by integrating erosion control methods like berms and bioswales, stabilizing the land while also promoting biodiversity. 4 - Future-Ready Landscape Design: From strategic tree placement for wind buffering to creating permeable surfaces, landscape architects design for resilience, reducing future risk and adding value to the property. Need help assessing damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton? We’re here to help — contact us today. 🌱 Let’s rebuild landscapes that are not only beautiful, but ready for the future. #LandscapeArchitecture #ResilientDesign #HurricaneRecovery #HurricaneAssessment #EcoFriendly #SustainableLandscaping #ClimateResilience #PropertyDevelopment #IDG #InnovationsDesignGroup Photo: Felix Mizioznikov - stock.adobe.com
