I attended this fantastic masterclass on Tuesday by the Landscape Institute chaired by Josh Cunningham. 'A landscape-led approach to transport and mobility'. Hearing from Jon Rowe & Zac Tudor, Caitlin Rollison, Katy Cardwell, and Mark Graham. Speaking about how we use our streets, how we can make them work harder and be more pleasant places to be as a pedestrian / cyclist / equestrian / not in a car! Whilst also recognising that roads are still being built despite a move towards more sustainable travel. Discussing what the best practices may be for making them work for people but not to the detriment of biodiversity or green space. One of the major topics across all of the talks was water. Celebrating it, showing the benefits, acknowledging its significance and working with it in our streets. Considering all of the environmental, economic, and social drivers behind our designs. At the end of the session we went into breakout groups, I was with Mark and 4 others where we explored issues around breaking out of disciplinary 'silos', engagement at different stages of a project, and how to make projects deliver multiple outcomes. Ultimately it was an eye opening 4 hours of inspiration, filling me with confidence that we are going into a considered, inclusive, and promising future.

I found this interview with my colleague, Peter Ruggiero, in The Wall Street Journal really interesting. He talks about designing airports that are intuitive, calming, and enjoyable. He also discusses rethinking how these spaces function to serve a growing number of travelers. This past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work on my first aviation project, with HOK, at Dallas Fort Worth Airport. It has been fascinating learning about the complexities of airport design and operations. Check out the interview with Peter below! #AviationDesign #AirportInnovation #HOK

The other is delight.” Check out WSJ's Pro Perfected video interview with Peter below! #hokaviation #airportdesign #wayfinding

Studies in Europe indicate that, on average, converting conventional intersections to roundabouts can reduce pedestrian crashes by about 75%. Worldwide studies of a spectrum of intersections converted to roundabouts have found roughly a 30-85% reduction for all crashes. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is one of the world’s busiest airports. In 2023 alone, it welcomed more than 75 million passengers. Keeping an airport of this scale moving efficiently is a constant logistical challenge and never more so than when major construction work needs to take place on the site. Find out how Buro Happold, in partnership with architects Woods Bagot, worked closely to design and plan the new Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) South at LAX: https://buro.im/4ij9wum #BuroHappold #Engineering #YearInReview #AnnualReview #AnnualReport #Consultancy #BuroHappoldAdvisory
