Collocations are words that commonly co-occur, such as ‘jury’ and ‘verdict.’ Collocational fluency is an essential aspect of second language fluency. Learning a language via #collocations improves upon the efficacy of #LanguageAcquisition because it essentially kills three birds with one stone: students learn #vocabulary, collocations, and also subconsciously absorb the #grammar patterns of language through mastery of these chunks of language. This is, in fact, similar to the way native speakers learn language and an efficient way to become fluent. This book will detail efforts to create and then apply a #methodology to develop a large-scale high-frequency collocation list and custom-tailored collocation resources for Japanese, Chinese, and Korean learners to study directly and for practitioners to utilize as reference materials to create additional resources. Presented in this book is a novel approach taken to fill a major gap in the research and to create large-scale resources that were previously unavailable. Therefore, this book should be considered a valuable contribution to research that aims to help second language learners more effectively achieve fluency in English as a second language. Dr. James Rogers is an associate professor at Meijo University. He has published over 50 publications on English as a second language-related topic, including publications in top-tier journals such as Studies in Second Language Acquisition, English for Specific Purposes, and Language Teaching Research. He has also led or been part of research teams that have received over 30 million yen worth of Japanese government grants to do educational research. Dr. Rogers is also the creator of multiple language-learning smartphone applications that have been downloaded over 200,000 times. His research interests include corpus linguistics, vocabulary acquisition, collocation, and C.A.L.L. Language Teachers, This post is for you! The following concept comes from performative langauge teaching and can create 3-5 effective and meaningful classes for you to use. First, what is Performative Language Teaching (PLT)? In essence, PLT is the use of drama, theater, and other performative arts as a tool for language education. It focuses on the embodiment of a scenario while putting into practice the participants' language skills. PLT is a vast umbrella for us to explore, but today I want to share one powerful concept - Shvil Yisra'el (The Israel National Trail). --- Shvil Yisra'el is a hiking trail that crosses the entire length of Israel, from north to south, with a total length of 1,040 km. So, what does this trail have to do with language teaching? Every person who has taken on a long hiking trail knows that the trail is a lot more than just the miles and the landscapes. It's the people you meet, the mental and physical effort, the connection with nature, and so much more. Thus, The Israel National Trail (or any other long trail) can serve as a new dimension and space where we can play and interact with each other. There are endless games, options, and role-plays that are possible under the universe of the Trail. Here is an example of one activity you can create: 1. Present the concept of the Trail. The goal here is to be specific and create a detailed scene. Use objects, signs, pictures, etc. The more real it becomes, the easier it will be for the participants to "believe it". 2. Explain the required task - Now, the task I chose to demonstrate is the "introduction script", which is the usual small talk - what's your name, where you are from, why you hike the trail, etc. This task is very accessible and relevant to the reality of the trial. 3. The hike begins - Let the student walk randomly in the space. A nice tool will be to add a song in the target language in the background. When the music stops, the students must face one of their peers and start engaging. A recommended "recipe" can be: -> 3 rounds of just greetings -> 3 rounds of introduction script (each one has to ask/answer) -> 2 rounds of more advanced conversation (if possible) --- There are countless modifications and tasks to add. The concept can be fully adapted to any level or age. Be creative, be serious, be playful. 💃

Boosting language skills in early childhood education! As educators, we're always looking for innovative and effective ways to support our young learners. That's why I wanted to share this insightful research paper on the Total Physical Response (TPR) approach in language skills development in early childhood. This study explores the effectiveness of TPR in enhancing language skills in young learners, and the results are fascinating! By incorporating physical movement and gestures into language instruction, TPR has shown to improve vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, and overall language proficiency. Whether you're a teacher, researcher, or simply interested in language learning, this paper is a must-read! Check it out and let me know your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/dhjKeu25 #TPR #LanguageLearning #EarlyChildhoodEducation #TeachingMethods #ResearchPaper"

Did you know there’s only a limited time frame—a small window of opportunity—within which your child can effortlessly acquire language? During only a few early years of their lives, children have an incredible ability to absorb vocabulary, grammar, and a flawless native accent. But once this window closes, this amazing ability fades, making language learning far more difficult... So how long does this window stay open? Over 150 years ago, Maria Montessori discovered that children experience a sensitive period for language acquisition, which lasts until they are about six years old. Modern studies continue to confirm this, showing that early childhood is the prime time for language development. After the first six years of life, while children can still learn, it becomes much harder, especially to acquire perfect grammar and pronunciation. When is the best time to act? If you’ve ever wondered, “Should I introduce an extra language into my child’s already busy linguistic repertoire? Won’t it confuse them? Won’t they learn English later in school anyway? Is reading and writing really that important”—the answer is simple: do it now! Your child’s brain is currently developing neurological pathways for various language constructs and giving your child exposure to various rhythms, intonations, accents, syntax, phonetic sounds, vocabulary - is like prepping the soil for an abundant linguistic crop to grow. Think about it—ever tried learning German as an adult? No matter how much effort you put in, you still can’t get "der, die, das" quite right... That’s exactly what I mean (story of my life, by the way...)! Learning as a young child is effortless and natural, but for adults, it’s a long, often frustrating process... The story of Victor of Aveyron, the "wild child," illustrates this perfectly. Raised in isolation without human contact, Victor was discovered around the age of 12, after the critical window for language development had closed. Despite intensive efforts, he was never able to develop the ability to speak properly, reminding us just how vital early language exposure is. So what can you do to support language development? At Academicus, we know how important it is to make the most of this language learning window. That’s why we focus on providing children with a strong foundation in communication, reading, and writing in English. There’s no better time to start! For kids 4-6yrs 💚 English Club! - Mondays 15:45-17:45 // Wednesdays 16:00-18:00 💚 English Reading & Writing 1 - BEGINNERS - Wednesdays 14:45-15:45 For kids 1,5-4yrs (pre-kindergarten): Playgroups 💚English Playgroups: Mon, Thu, Fri - 09:00-12:00 💚Polish Playgroups: Tue & Wed - 09:00-12:00 For babies 0-12m 💚TinyTalk - baby & parent signing class Thursday at 12:30 Don’t wait—give your child the gift of language while their window of opportunity is wide open! Going through the Language Acquisition process is an amazing experience as I've learned tremendous from the Garden of Ilm instructor on YouTube. He goes through day-to-day Transliteration with tremendous patience. Distance learning may include video or audio instruction in which the primary mode of communication between the student and instructor is online interaction, instructional television, video, telecourses, or other instruction that relies on computer or communications technology. It is likely that Distance Learning Education Programs will continue to become more popular for adults who are working 32-40 hours per week and are interested in continuing education or Lifelong learning in several subjects. Linguistics and developing Google search queries is particularly interesting in several languages. My area of interest is in studying Islam and being someone who does not speak Arabic. My other area of interest is in Distance Learning Accreditation. I think that the Garden of Ilm is considered an academically valuable program to teach people the Traditional Islam and is useful in potentially formalizing a degree in Islamic Studies that would be particularly appealing to English Speakers. The Instructor Ustadh Abdul Aziz Al-Haqqan is performing at a very advanced level and his channel has grown to 14,000 subscribers. language acquisition degree can prepare students for careers in language education and research, or for advanced teacher training. Some examples of language acquisition degree programs include: Master in Applied Linguistics and Language Acquisition in Multilingual Contexts This program trains students to conduct applied research projects and transfer research results to teaching practice. Second Language Acquisition (SLA) Track This track within the MA in SLS program at the University of Hawaii prepares students for professional activities like publishing, presenting at conferences, and conducting research. Master's in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition This one-year program at Carnegie Mellon University prepares students for careers in language education and research. Master's Degree in Language Acquisition and Teaching English as a Foreign Language This program provides advanced teacher training in language acquisition and teaching English as a foreign language. Language acquisition is the process by which people learn to understand and produce language, whether as their first or second language. Studying language acquisition provides evidence for theoretical linguistics and has practical applications in language pedagogy.

Fostering Linguistic Excellence through Technological Ingenuity: Elevating English Education into the Modern Epoch.
I recently had the privilege of attending the iTELL Conference 2024 as a participant, hosted by Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana (UKSW) in Salatiga. The conference theme, “Multimodal Approaches to Language Learning: Integrating Technology and Creativity,” provided a stimulating platform for educators, practitioners, and researchers to explore innovative pedagogical strategies. The following is what I can summarize from that series of events: Diverse Perspectives The conference hall buzzed with conversations in multiple languages. Educators, scholars, and students from various corners of Indonesia gathered to explore the intersection of technology and creativity in language teaching. It was like a linguistic kaleidoscope! Tech Meets Creativity The theme—“Multimodal Approaches to Language Learning: Integrating Technology and Creativity”—was a beacon guiding us through sessions that explored innovative ways to engage learners. From augmented reality to interactive apps, we delved into tools that could transform our classrooms. Inspiring Keynotes I extend my sincere gratitude for illuminating contributions during the iTELL Conference 2024. Your wisdom, passion, and expertise enriched our collective understanding of language education. Each of your sessions left an indelible mark, sparking thoughtful conversations and inspiring us to elevate our teaching practices. My high appreciation goes to: Mr. Gumawang Jati. Mrs. Neny Isharyanti, Ph.D., AFHEA, Mr. Made Hery Santosa, and Mr. Davide Guarini Gilmartin. Poster Presentations The poster area was a hub of activity. Researchers stood proudly by their A2-sized posters, discussing their studies. I marveled at the creativity—infographics, QR codes, and even a digital poster that came alive when scanned! Culture Night The conference dinner was a feast for the senses. Traditional outfits from different cultures adorned the room. We danced, laughed, and shared stories. It was a reminder that language learning isn’t just about words—it’s about connecting hearts.
