One of the most fascinating things about learning a language is discovering expressions that do not have a one-to-one equivalent in English. Here are 8 Spanish phrases for ideas, concepts and rituals that are not that common in English.

I love when I can easily show my students how similar English and Spanish are at the beginning. And it's exciting when they start diverging one from the other!
📍 You will be fluent in Italian, Spanish, French or another language in 3 months.
📍 Does it sound too good to be true? Well, that is because it’s not true in almost all cases.
📍 There are various methods to learn a language and everyone has their preferred language style, however, if you believe you will be fluent using only apps based on gamification you will be disappointed.
📍 Bob Meese, Duolingo’s chief revenue officer, did not immediately understand the spoken question “¿Hablas español?” (Which means, “do you speak Spanish?”) after six months of Duolingo Spanish study.
📍 I can carry on with these type of examples, but I would like to explain to you why learning a new language requires time and commitment. If you are interested in picking up random words and phrases you are reading the wrong post.
📍 I am a strong advocate of understanding the sentence structure, in teaching grammar rules through fun role-plays. Grammar is the pillar of a language, if you are interested in speaking correctly that is.
📍 Once you understand the basic rules your brain will start creating connections facilitating the learning process.
📍 There so much more about this, read the whole article and you will discover why learning a new language is not learning a math formula.

Why get by in Spanish when you can be bilingual?
Self-assessment: The Feynman Technique can be adapted for effective language learning, whether it’s Spanish or any other language. 🌍📚
Here’s how to apply it to your language journey:
Choose a Language Concept: Select a specific language concept or topic, like verb conjugation, vocabulary related to a theme, or a grammar rule.
Explain it in Spanish: Pretend you’re teaching a beginner. Explain it in Spanish using simple words and phrases. For example, if it’s verb conjugation, start with sentences like “Yo hablo español” (I speak Spanish) and “Tú comes pizza” (You eat pizza).
Identify Language Gaps: Note areas where you struggle to explain clearly. These gaps reveal where you need more study. It might be new vocabulary, grammar, or pronunciation.
Study and Practice: Dive into your learning materials for a deeper understanding. Practice through exercises, dialogues, or listening to native speakers.
Simplify and Clarify in Spanish: Return to step 2 with your enhanced knowledge. Aim for even simpler, clearer explanations.
Repeat and Apply: Keep this process for various language concepts, regularly reviewing and simplifying your explanations. Apply your knowledge in real-life situations, like conversations, writing, or listening exercises.
The adapted Feynman Technique for language learning promotes active engagement, spotlights areas for improvement, and underscores the importance of simplifying complex language concepts. It’s an effective method for achieving fluency and proficiency in Spanish or any language. 💬📝🗣️

I’ve a super busy schedule but I also have to learn French. What should I do ? 🇫🇷
Here are some tips on how you can learn a language even with your hectic schedule!!
🇫🇷 Listen to podcasts while commuting to work
Honestly this works for me a lot. The commute to work for most people is very long and a big time waster each day. Why don’t we listen to podcasts and make that time useful .
🇫🇷 1 min lesson
Thanks to social media. We have these short videos that are a great source of learning foreign language. It’s super rapid and doesn’t take much time to learn a short lesson.
🇫🇷 Use your lunch breaks wisely.
Once we’re done with our food during our break , instead of wasting time we can utilise it to revise flashcards.
🇫🇷 Change The Language Of Your Work Computer & Phone
Everyone spends hours on their electronic devices daily. You should change the language of your computer or at least rename some of your personal folders with titles in your target language.
🇫🇷 Watch Foreign Language Movies On The Weekend or at least active the subtitles.
Watching foreign language movies is one of the most fun ways to learn a language.
🇫🇷 Start seeing the world in French
Well is how I learned French. During my initial years of learning French, while commuting while being at home, I used to observe the things around myself and used to wonder what this particular thing is called in French and that build up the curiosity to use the dictionary more and more.

Feeling shy and silent when it comes to English? You're not alone! 🤐💬
Many people experience the fear of speaking a new language. But fear not, communication champions can be made!
This post details my 5-step journey to overcoming my fear of speaking English, transforming me from a wallflower to a confident conversationalist. Let's dive in!
1. Movie Magic 🎬🍿
Who knew movie nights could be an English learning adventure? I started watching movies with English subtitles. This allowed me to absorb pronunciation and sentence structures naturally, without feeling overwhelmed. It was like learning by osmosis!

3. Comic Capers 📖🦸♂️
Learning a language doesn't have to be all textbooks and grammar drills. Reading comics in English added a fun and engaging element to my journey. The visual format with speech bubbles made the language more relatable, helping me connect words with their meanings. It was like learning with a side of superheroes!

Ultimately, the key to overcoming my fear was making English a priority. I started talking whenever I could, even if I made mistakes. The more I spoke, the more comfortable I became. Hey HR - You've been put in charge of your company's language classes program. Group language classes or one on one private language coaching?
Questions to ask yourself
What is the goal?
Do they need to progress rapidly?
Does everyone have the same level?
Does everyone have the same needs?
Can everyone meet at the same time?
More on question 1: what is the goal? Is it specifically for one aspect of communication like safety vocabulary, customer service calls, email writing or giving feedback in meetings? Does everyone in the class hold the same job title? Do they do the same job? Or do a certain number of people need to fine tune a specific aspect of the way they communicate?
More on question 2: if you want fast progress, don’t do groups. Short courses of 20 hours with focused attention on a specific aspect of communication will generally be enough for an advanced speaker who needs to polish one aspect of communication.
More on question 3: if they don’t have the same level in a group class, the results will not be as good as they could be. Those more advanced will get bored, and those on a lower level will get discouraged.
More on question 4: for anyone at a high level, we do suggest one on one private coaching, as they likely will want to rehearse for specific meetings and presentations, and their level will often be more advanced, so they need to focus on job-relevant vocabulary specific for their position.
