I love my FEMA colleagues and what they do, but please, do not post flyers on your social media. Why? 1. No one is going to click, zoom up, and read what it says. They are going to read the headline and the caption of the photo. 2. Yep. It is not accessible. Even the ALT Text would be way to long for people to understand all that is being messaged here 2. Visually, this isn’t making me want to attend. Be creative with this and stick to three key points. Way too much info for anyone to follow. Just give me the Call to Action and the Who, What, When, Where, link to get more info or sign-up. Stepping of my soapbox now.

Last year, the day before my 55th birthday, I attended the Supreme Court of the U.S. oral arguments for United States v. Rahimi. It was an out-of-body experience, sitting there with Todd Bellino, my sister Kona Gallagher, and the two attorneys Brenda Clayton of Kelly Hart and Hallman, who took on our Amicus Brief with our CLO Bronwyn Blake. Watching the Justices engage in probing (non partisan) questions to uphold the promise of equal justice under the law and interpret our Constitution was surreal. It was apparent they were deeply committed to "getting to the bottom of it" with no agenda. By the way, let's not forget the actual building as part of the experience—its history and importance. As a layperson, I believed the outcome had to be in favor of upholding the restrictions, but as a non-attorney running an amazing non-profit law firm, I was also scared. Scared for victims and scared because I know we can never predict the decisions of others. Sweaty palms, heart palpitating scared. I know access to a gun makes it five times more likely that a woman will die at the hands of her abuser because we handle nearly 5,000 high-stakes cases a year. Had the decision gone the other way, countless victims would have been at greater risk of death. The Supreme Court's ruling to uphold these critical- and constitutional- firearm restrictions is a vital step in addressing what I believe, is a crisis. The decision allows for the temporary restriction of gun possession for individuals deemed a threat who are subject to domestic violence restraining orders. This 8-1 ruling, authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, emphasized that historical laws have always aimed to prevent those who pose a clear danger from having guns. Please join us in this Town Hall to learn how this will impact victims, advocates, and you—my friends who want to make sure our family members, friends, neighbors, kids, and businesses benefit from this important decision. "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give" by Winston Churchill The distinction between the materialistic aspect of life and its deeper, more fulfilling spiritual or emotional dimension. In essence, it suggests that our professional and financial achievements ("what we get") provide for our physical needs and can define our social status or success. However, the true essence and fulfillment in life are found not in accumulating wealth or possessions, but in our contributions to the well-being of others and the community ("what we give"). For example, a successful lawyer makes a good living through their profession, ensuring financial stability and comfort. However, they find deeper satisfaction and meaning in life by volunteering at a legal aid clinic, offering free legal services to those who cannot afford representation. Through this act of giving, the lawyer not only helps others but also enriches their own life with a sense of purpose and connection to the community. ♻️ PLEASE help share the post 🙏 https://lnkd.in/ejUu7ffT
