#Patent Practice - Why a Patent Attorney? I'm sure many of you have heard the same old tired reasons why you should hire a patent attorney instead of doing it all yourself. Honestly, I've never really thought of patent attorneys as some glamorous or high-status thing. It's a job, yeah I love it, but it's not a big deal like saving the world. Still, we're here for a reason, and there's definitely a need for IP professionals. A quick story: today, I had a chat with a potential client about his idea. At first, he mentioned that he just wanted to patent a product. But after we dug deeper, I realized that not only the product itself but also the way it's made and the special material used in the process all ticked the boxes for patent protection. Turns out, his idea wasn't just one patent - it was a whole package. So, yeah, while I don't see our job as anything flashy, it's clear that we do contribute our fair share to the industry. Next time, before moving forward, have a chat with an IP practitioner first. We don't bite. Any #IP questions, drop me messages, send me emails or leave comments here. #Chineseip #CNIPA

This very cool post by Daphne Huberts reminds us that IP can be fun. and what can be more fun than telling stories about IP? join us this Tuesday, October 8, for an IP-story sharing event. Register here: https://lnkd.in/dqq9hdqC The rules are simple – tell a story about IP. There is no recording, but please keep the stories anonymous. No questions or comments are allowed, except in the form of a story. You can be spontaneous, but I would be happy if you DM me ahead of time so we get some sort of roster set up. To help prime the story pump, consider any of the following subjects: A mistake you made - that came out ok, or not The coolest invention i saw Unique clients Client insight that was better than mine "i told him so" Unexpected or weird rejection Unexpected application of a new technology Difficult investor Licensee pulling a trick Cool strategic or tactical move How IP was aligned (or not) with a business/goal Difficult examiner Happy stories about how IP saved client or helped client succeed IP that was ready when client decided to pivot The IP that cinched the exit vs the IP that killed the investment Language added by the patent attorney that later saved the patent Dr. Benjamin DELSOL (PhD, LL.M) #myipstory #ipsharingiscaring

Specific difference between the patent agent without engineering knowledge and the engineer with knowledge-cum experience in patent filing procedures, let's compare key aspects of their roles, skills, and approaches: Patent Agent without Engineering Knowledge: 1. Legal expertise: Strong understanding of patent law, filing procedures 2. Generalist approach: May work across various technical fields without deep specialization. 3. Focus on legal aspects: Emphasis on claim drafting, patent prosecution, and legal strategy. 4. Limited technical understanding: May struggle with complex technical concepts or innovations. 5. Reliance on inventors: Heavily dependent on inventors to explain technical details. 6. Broader patent strategy: May excel at portfolio management and overall IP strategy. Engineer with Patent Filing Knowledge: 1. Technical expertise: In-depth understanding of specific engineering fields. 2. Specialized approach: Usually focuses on their area of technical expertise. 3. Technical writing skills: Ability to describe inventions accurately in technical terms. 4. Easier communication: Can more easily understand and converse with inventors. 5. Practical insight: Can evaluate patentability and potential workarounds from an engineering perspective. 6. Potential legal knowledge gaps: May have less comprehensive understanding of patent law nuances. 7. Industry perspective: Better understanding of state-of-the-art and market relevance of inventions. Key Differences: 1. Technical depth: Engineers bring deeper technical knowledge, while patent agents rely more on legal expertise. 2. Communication: Engineers may communicate more effectively with inventors. 3. Scope: Patent agents often work across multiple fields, while engineers typically specialize. 4. Approach to innovation: Engineers can better assess technical merits, while patent agents focus on legal protection. 5. Skill complementarity: Ideally, patent teams include both profiles to balance technical and legal aspects..
