https://lnkd.in/gG3TbPP5 Congress, not CMS, decides to cut physician compensation. Overworked doctors quitting. Poor governmental planning for training and supporting healthcare systems. Career politicians politicking our Nation into third world status. There are major changes needed to how Congressional members are selected and campaign finance.

Why More Physicians are Leaving Healthcare: In this Becker's Healthcare’article, by Riz Hatton, multiple contributing factors for physician (and other healthcare worker) exodus are noted - especially those affecting ‘front-line’ physicians. The article comments that - “The shortage of front-line providers can drastically impact the U.S. as our population is aging. If we don't find proper means of compensating providers and make their jobs more enjoyable, we will be in a health crisis." MY TAKE: We are, in fact, already in a healthcare shortage crisis. With healthcare now seen as one of the most dangerous and least desirable occupations Link - https://lnkd.in/ex_wBN6j - and as bright young minds increasing turn away from healthcare as a career choice - Link - https://lnkd.in/e7xywiA7 – this shortage will only intensify. Currently more of our leaders are turning a deaf ear to the issue and increasingly stating that these conditions are now just part of a healthcare career – Link - https://lnkd.in/eXTjWziU. If this leadership posturing continues unaddressed and unabated - we may end up facing a condition where – with severe worsening shortages of doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers - ‘Dr AI’ or ‘Nurse AI’ becomes - unfortunately and increasingly – an only option for healthcare access for more and more patients in our country. By 2030, one in five Americans will be 65 or older, placing even more strain on the healthcare system due to increased medical care needs. See how retiring physicians can relieve the pressure at https://lnkd.in/exvZESMR, or read on for more physician news. In the July edition of “In the Interim,” our monthly roundup of the latest news for locum tenens providers, we explore how locum tenens roles offer retiring physicians the chance to continue practicing with greater flexibility and without the demands of full-time work. Also, physician burnout drops below 50% for the first time since 2020; 90% of PAs express satisfaction with their careers; 82% of healthcare workers wish they were paid more frequently than twice a month, and more. Important new report led by Professor Richard Griffin MBE who has been revisiting the Cavendish Review to see what progress has been made in the last 10 years. ⬇ I was part of the Advisory Group commenting in the early stages of this work (following my project a few years ago to build on the English mental health support workforce which received guidance from Richard). The new report from King's College London shows: 💡 Clinical support staff are crucial to the NHS but still feel undervalued and ‘invisible’ 💡 Clinical support staff make up 28 percent of the NHS workforce and are often the staff who have the most direct contact with patients and their families 💡 Only one in five think the NHS values them and more than a quarter regularly consider leaving their job 💡 Action is needed now to address the recruitment, management and career development issues support workers face (leading to improvement in patient care, workloads, productivity, safety and patient satisfaction) If you work in mental health services and are interested in understanding more about our support workforce you can access information from my project: 🔍 A toolkit I wrote and designed with support from Curio Group https://lnkd.in/gQrtYS3B 🔍 A Nuffield report I commissioned on workforce analysis with Dr William L Palmer https://lnkd.in/ep4H3-_y 🔍 A survey of the views from the workforce themselves with Professor Richard Griffin MBE https://lnkd.in/gcHru2wh #NHS #healthcare #OurNHSPeople #WeAreHCSWs #mentalhealth
Healthcare assistants, cancer support workers & other clinical support staff are vital to the NHS - making up 28 percent of the workforce - but feel unvalued and 'invisible'. Just one in five feel the NHS values them and more than a quarter regularly consider leaving, new research has found. This important new report, led by Professor Richard Griffin MBE at King's Business School, reveals there has been little progress in the decade since The Cavendish Review and it sets out recommendations on recruitment, management and career development that would improve patient care, workloads, productivity, safety and patient satisfaction. ⬇ https://lnkd.in/gWFXnXWr

#ICYMI, Doximity just released our 2024 Physician Compensation Report. I recently discussed key insights with Beth Greenfield from Fortune. The data highlights alarming trends: 🏃♂️ 81% of physicians feel overworked 💼 59% are contemplating job changes or early retirement 👩⚕️ The gender pay gap for doctors remains at 23% As an EM doc, I've seen the effects firsthand. Colleagues in EM, as well as other specialties, often express feeling stretched thin and, worse yet, helpless. Notably, a significant 70% call out physicians’ admin burden as a major contributor to the physician shortage issue. There's a mismatch between what we trained for and what we are actually asked to do in our day to day work. Despite finding a 6% bump in physician compensation overall, the report emphasizes the need to address: - Fair pay - Sustainable workloads - Preserving more time for patient care Read more in this coverage from Fortune and delve into Doximity's comprehensive report on the myriad challenges impacting today's physicians. #PhysicianCompensation #HealthcareTrends #Doximity https://lnkd.in/esj3D46u

This is a true canary in the coalmine signal. Our patient care continuum is thoroughly interconnected across these specialties, as they intersect all age and morbidity classifications. On average approximately one third of physicians in these very critical specialties are seriously considering exiting clinical practice, and/or scaling back. Alarmingly this now includes younger physicians. Low payer reimbursement, administrative burdens, caused by relentless payer demands, staffing costs, and burnout are all contributors. In 6 specialties, desire to step away or scale back is common https://lnkd.in/eaEctJfn

The data doesn't lie. The record levels of burnout in the healthcare industry have contributed to the many labor issues we see, especially with nurses. Not only does this impact productivity rates, but it ultimately goes back to the patients. It is time we make a change for our healthcare leaders so that our patients can be better-taken care of. We need better labor practices, more of a focus on mental health, and processes that don't further burden our healthcare workers. Credit to the American Hospital Association for the data. #Burnout #Labor #Healthcare
