Here's to the beginning of #womenshistorymonth and it's FRIYAY! Had an insightful chat with Angela Oliver, Associate at Haynes and Boone, LLP about women in litigation and so much more! Huge congrats on her journey into motherhood 🎉 We dove deep into the nuances of her clerkship at E.D. Tex. and Fed. Circ., highlighting the unique challenges and triumphs. Did you know Angela started drawing on paper at 3 years old? When her parents asked what she was working on, she said, "A patent." She's destined to be a patent attorney and a woman in #STEM. 📚 We also discussed the importance of women rising together through collaboration and holding the door open for one another in our field. New Year. New Barriers to Break. According to the recent report by the National Association for Law Placement, 2023 witnessed unprecedented achievements in diversity. Progress in Numbers: - For the first time, women constitute the majority of associates, marking a significant milestone at 50.31%. - Associates of color experienced a 1.8 percentage point increase, reaching 30.15%, the largest gain in over three decades. While the numbers of women and associates of color reached all-time highs, it's crucial to acknowledge the work that lies ahead, especially in the journey toward equitable partnership representation. As a young-ish female partner in an AmLaw 50 firm, I'm proud of the strides we've made in elevating women, but it's disheartening to see the persistent gap in reaching partnership positions. Let's make 2024 the year of greater change through open dialogue and mentorship programs that actively address and dismantle barriers, ensuring every talented woman has a fair shot at the highest ranks of leadership in her law firm. #NewYearNewOpportunities

It was wonderful catching up with friends new and old at the women in #commerciallitigation breakfast hosted by The Advocates' Society. The panel discussion, moderated by Laura Wagner, was insightful and engaging. Here are my key takeaways: 💡 Megan Shortreed: focus on building your credibility, not just your brand; 💡 Sumeet (Sonu) Dhanju-Dhillon (she/her): market your partners' subject matter expertise along with your own to expand your client base; 💡 Mira Novek: the future is bright - in-house counsel care about, and prioritize, diversity in their external counsel teams; and 💡 Safina Lakhani: build in time for in-housel counsel's internal reporting requirements when seeking instructions.
