It's no secret that there are many communities across the U.S. that are struggling when it comes to having local access to high-quality helathcare and other related services due to social inequities. In Southern California, the Watts neighborhood in Los Angeles is one such community, where residents, many of whom have no reliable access to transportation, have to travel to see a doctor when their family needs access to reliable healthcare services. That is why it was significant when local residents joined community leaders, elected officials and Kaiser Permanente Southern California leaders and physicians in the unveiling the new Kaiser Permanente Watts Medical Office Building, which will also be the new home of the Kaiser Permanente Watts Counseling and Learning Center. The 61,855-square-foot facility, which will officially open on Tuesday, will provide easier access to exceptional health care and services. This facility has been built in the heart of an area of South Los Angeles with a longstanding history of underinvestment. This project demonstrates a commitment to the community and provides Kaiser Permanente members with access to high-quality healthcare services conveniently located close to home. This event was also significant in that Watts is a densely populated neighborhood, comprised mainly of Black and Latino residents, which bears a disproportionate burden of illness and social inequities, and Kaiser Permanente hopes this new facility will begin to address those inequities. Through Kaiser Permanente’s investment in the Watts community, it is improving access to much-needed quality health care, early childhood education, social health and the conditions for health and equity in one of the most underserved areas in Southern California. Watch how reporter Sid Garcia on ABC7 Los Angeles described the positive impact Kaiser Permanente's new investment in Watts will have on local residents' health and quality of life.

Great read here ⬇️. Here are some key facts to consider: 1. The average wait time for a patient to seek a primary care provider (PCP) in the US is 26 days, and that's even without factoring in specialty care. 2. Even worse, nearly half of Americans who experience unreasonable wait times give up seeking an appointment and do not receive care. 3. The US is expected to have a shortage of 18,000–48,000 PCPs by 2034. Access to care matters!!
A new primary care scorecard from the AAFP's Robert Graham Center found more than 1 in 10 U.S. children don't have a primary doctor, and more than 1 in 4 adults don't have one either. Read more about why access to a family physician is critical in this important piece in Scripps News: https://bit.ly/3P2A4TI

For many families, leaving the hospital after a child’s serious diagnosis is just the beginning of a long and uncertain recovery journey. Post-acute care is crucial, but many families and providers don’t know where to turn once the hospital doors close. A recent study published in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine identified 109 pediatric post-acute care facilities across the U.S.—yet there are still huge regions where there are no dedicated pediatric post-acute care facilities. At Ranken Jordan, we’re working to connect families with the resources they need. Our very own Dr. Nick Holekamp has been dedicated to gathering data on post-acute care programs across the country, to create a directory that helps families and healthcare professionals navigate this essential phase of care. Read more about this important research and how we can collaborate to close the gaps in pediatric post-acute care here. https://lnkd.in/ga9JtEpY #RankenJordan #PediatricCare #PostAcuteCare #BridgeHospitals #HealthcareCommunity Tag - https://lnkd.in/gqtc26jY
