Here's how it works: 🔄 Searching for reinforcing bars involves scanning the tested surface while rotating the sensor to obtain the minimum thickness value of the protective layer. 📏 The device determines the unknown diameter of rebar using a dielectric spacer. The first measurement is conducted without the spacer, and the data is stored in the device's memory. The second measurement, with the spacer, displays the diameter of reinforcement. 🔧 Picture a scenario where a sillly solution Solves a critical problem. Well. It's not that rare, but still really satisfying when it happens. Here is mine for example. The firt real challange i faced in designing our machines was how to connnect the gantry of the machine to the base. The connetion itself wasnt the problem, very simple , linear rails and carriages. The challnge was how make sure that the gantery will fit and how to make sure it will keep exactly 90 degrees to the base. Contrary to many machines on the market, we wanted our gantry to be built from one unit, not two legs and a beam attached with screws. The legs and beam method has certain pros such as ease of production, light weight, and production that is more forgiving of precision errors. But these advantages are only useful during the production phase and leave the risk of accuracy problems after an accident (which will always come, at some point). And in any case, making the gantry from one unit gives the gntray strength and reduces the chance of vibrations and inaccuracies. Our concerns were that if we designed a gantry with exact dimensions for the base, and there was a fault with the manufacturer in the machined areas, the gantry would be too narrow for the base and would not fit. And the second concern is if there will be a problem and the nachined areas will not be parallel, how will we guarantee the diagonal of the machines. Both problems are very critical for a small business like ours, without the proper equipment to fix such mistakes. My solution was simple , silly and managged to solved both problems. I designed the gantry 3 mm wider than necessary, and plates in the shape of the face of the linear carrier in different thicknesses a a spaceres. First of all, the gantry is wider, it will always fit. And with the help of the spacers I can set a diagonal in a very simple way, it's just a matter of understanding geometry. Here a short video (edited by me ...sorry about that 😅 ) showing me testing that solution at our supplier in Turkey. p.s. For those interested, the deviation in the diagonal was less than 0.05 mm for a movement of one meter.
