I had the privilege to swear in another awesome lateral deputy this week! He was recruited by one of my deputies who has been with us for just under two years… Over the last several years we have had a wait list of qualified laterals and entry level applicants to build our team while other agencies have not been so lucky. I truly believe we are doing a few things right with recruitment: 1. Who we hire is not solely done at the administrative level. We seek to include input from all levels of our organization. We utilize ridealongs with our FTOs, observations from our professional staff, and diverse help on interview panels to make informed hiring decisions. No matter how great someone looks on paper we do not make an offer unless there are endorsements from our team. 2. Culture may be driven by the vision of leadership but we know the reality of our culture is made on shift. We trust our sergeants and corporals to set the tone and our deputies to support them. We ensure every new hire is right for our culture but also give applicants every opportunity to make sure we are a good fit for them. Sometimes applicants aren’t a good fit but they are great people and will make awesome cops but not for us or our community. When that happens, we do everything we can to get them into an agency we think is good for them. 3. Just like with this new lateral, we look to every uniformed deputy to be a recruiter for us. When the deputies get to choose their backup we see higher levels of commitment to one another and the agency. Obviously, there are times this does not workout but we always keep trying! Our team knows we have their back and will tirelessly work to keep them in the best equipment with the best backup to ensure their safety. Staying the course with those goals in mind is what keeps our deputies spreading positivity to bring in great recruits. I don’t know how everyone else is doing it, but I think our results speak for themselves and I will keep working to support my team by trusting them and including them in decisions that effect their health and happiness. #BuildingWWSO

Everybody in the Hotel business has seen this: You are losing a great performing ASSISTANT MANAGER who is being lured into the MANAGER POSITION by the change of job title and pay-check. Evaluating internal candidates should be part of each selection process. However, ‘INTERNAL CANDIDATES’ must go through a FORMAL INTERVIEW PROCESS to make sure they have the skill set needed! Otherwise, you just multiply your problem by receiving a MEDIOCRE MANAGER and losing a great ASSISTANT MANAGER, because they do not have soft-skills, adaptability, or technical ability to be fully in charge. Whoever said applying for new jobs is a numbers game is completely wrong! Adopting that approach, simply shows hiring managers and HR, a lazy I can’t be bothered to put any effort in approach. ❌It shows you are super active in the market and it doesn’t matter where you end up! ✅Quality over quantity is definitely what’s needed if you want to land your dream role. If you are serious about landing your dream role you need to do the following: 👉Know what is important to you and what has to be there from a company and role perspective to mirror your personal values 👉Research perspective companies to determine if they are a match with the above 👉Tailor your applications and show an employer why they need you in that role ASAP ✅Remember, It only takes one quality application at a quality employer to be a match. Knowing exactly where you want be and showing how great you are for that role comes from a place of believing in yourself and putting the graft in up front, IF you are serious about your career. 👊🏻 A shotgun application process,as opposed to a targeted strategy will only result in potential offers for roles you don’t want, If there are any offers at all!! What perspective employer wants to feel like they are one of many options for you 🤔 ✅Remember quality VS quantity and preparation teamed with a clear strategy is key. It’s nearly Valentine's Day. That means 1 thing – time to make those restaurant reservations. Now choosing somewhere is the hard part. Would you prefer to go somewhere that serves everything? A day at the office, video calls, a lunch, anything! 🍔 🎧 👋 Typical interviewers are HR and managers. All important people who will help you shape your perspective of the company culture but at the end of the day, you'll be working closely with your line manager and your TEAM. Your future colleagues will 💡 give you a much more relatable view of what it's like to work there 💡 tell you how realistic it is to hit target 💡 tell you how situations are being handled when you're not performing 💡 sit in the same boat as you, learn from and support you (and vice versa) You spend most of your day with or at work - make sure you enjoy being around the people you work with.

After spending the weekend in Las Vegas for my best friends Bachelor Party, here is what I learned! 🎉 I am no longer 21 years old, nor do I have any desire to be 🏬 Those pretty & big buildings, are getting prettier and bigger for a reason 🍗 I will never take for granted the price of a normal water bottle or chicken tenders ⏱ The time change is the most confusing part of the whole weekend 💵 Absolutely nothing is "free" That all being said, I had an absolute blast celebrating with friends I have not seen in years! Stay with me, I am going to try my best to tie this into Recruitment, ready; We had an itinerary and a plan for the whole weekend which made it so enjoyable. Golf at this time, dinner at this time, hotel at this time etc. Without that plan, that trip could have gone sideways quickly and would've led to unnecessary amounts of more money being spent. Without a solid hiring plan, your team and business could be spending time money and resources in the wrong areas as well. That shiny object is not always the best option, and we can help you with every hire from the moments its a need, to on-boarding that candidate.
