🚧IRF Global-Road Safety Committee presents the Complimentary Webinar Series 👉 Work Zone Safety: A Critical Issue We Can't Ignore! #Workzone safety is critical for both road users and workers. Workzonesafety.org reports that 891 fatalities and 37,000 injuries were recorded across an estimated 96,000 crashes within work zones during 2022 in the USA. What are the statistics in your country? Usually, the work zone statistics are not easily available, but reports from other highly motorized countries including the Netherlands, United States and Great Britain show that around 1-2% of road fatalities occur at roadworks. The International Road Federation (IRF Global) is launching an 8-week webinar series designed to provide high-level overviews on various aspects of work zone safety, developed by the IRF ROAD SAFETY COMMITTEE’s Taskforce on Safer Work Zone Practices. Yesterday kicked off National Work Zone Safety Week! Everyday, but this week especially, let's emphasize the critical importance of safety in highway work zones. “Work Zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever.” This is the message for this year’s National Work Zone Awareness Week. "It is a sobering reminder of the impact your actions may have on yourself and others while driving through work zones. Please pay attention as you approach a roadway work zone, remove distractions, slow your vehicle, and save lives." says our Vice President of Construction Services and member of the APC Safety Committee, Anthony Dougherty. Each year preventable fatalities occur. We can all do our part to educate ourselves on #WorkZoneSafety and help everyone make it home safely. Navigating through work zones requires heightened awareness and caution due to the various risks and hazards present. Reduced visibility, narrowed lanes, and merging traffic are just a few examples of the challenges drivers may encounter in work zones. Uneven road surfaces, construction equipment, and workers moving in and out of the work area add to the complexity and potential dangers. Recognizing these risks is the first step in ensuring safe passage through work zones. By understanding the potential hazards, drivers can better anticipate and respond to changing conditions, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries. Drivers need to stay alert, obey posted speed limits and signage, and remain vigilant for hazards such as sudden lane closures or unexpected obstacles. #NWZAW #WorkZoneSafety #SafetyAwareness #DriveSmart #ConstructionZone #RoadSafety #NDTA
