Today is the International Day of Democracy which provides an opportunity to promote and uphold the principles of democracy as a fundamental human right. From 2021 to 2023 I had the pleasure to investigate, together with Kim Weger, Vlad Fedorov + the BGBA team, the trends in #placemaking in the context of citizen #democracy in Bulgaria and Norway, as part of the project “Neighborhood Democracy in Urban Communities”, funded by EEA and Norway Grants. Based on this research we created a placemaking toolkit to enhance democratic citizen participation. If you are interested in the potential of placemaking for democracy, take a look to our publications: PLACEMAKING FOR DEMOCRACY: A STUDY OF SUCCESSES IN BULGARIA AND NORWAY https://lnkd.in/dRfZr7aX PLACEMAKING FOR DEMOCRACY: COMMUNITY TOOLKIT https://lnkd.in/dRfZr7aX

💚 I am so glad to be able to contribute to make the city of Drammen greener and more inclusive 💚 At Evas Grøne Hage, we are curretly working on transforming Godsen - a former goods railway station of heritage value - into a vibrant cultural incubator, a community meeting place and a green oasis for the entire neighbourhood 🌳🐝🌻 This historic building is 100 years old, covers approximately 1,500 square meters and has a great architecture. At Evas Grønne Hage we are in charge of filling this building with life - with a focus on local crafts and green activities. You can read more about our work at Godsen and some of our green projects in the new magazine of Byen Vår Drammen AS called Oi! Five years ago today I was in Lecce (Italy) together with this wonderful group of urban changemakers, as part of the Actors of Urban Change program by MitOst e.V. In this program, teams across Europe worked together for positive change in their cities – in a collaborative, inclusive and participatory way. As participant and alumni of this program, I had the amazing opportunity of joining a growing network of committed and creative changemakers across Europe, representing many countries, sectors and areas of expertise. Within this network, I have the opportunity to continue learning as well as co-creating new projects with fellow Actors across Europe for more sustainable, inclusive and just cities. It’s been a pleasure to work during the last five years as Workpackage leader for the #Horizon2020 Edible Cities Network Project with this international team of experts from local city administrations, NGOs, SMEs and research institutions. It was a pity I could not join you in Berlin for The Edible Cities Network Final Project meeting, but I am looking forward to continuing working with some of you on the topics of #ediblecities and #inclusivecities. EU-funded project promoting sustainable, resilient, inclusive cities through edible nature-based solutions
🌱 Reflecting on our final meeting 🌆🌍 Last week, we gathered in the vibrant city of Berlin for the Edible Cities Network Final Project Meeting, and what an extraordinary journey it has been! 🌆🌱 Over the past five years, the Edible Cities Network project has tirelessly worked towards transforming our urban landscapes into thriving, sustainable, and green havens. From urban gardens to vertical farms and community kitchens, we've embraced Edible City Solutions (ECS) to make our cities better places to live. During this two-day event, we had the privilege of hearing from the City Teams in the Front Runner Cities, who pioneered different ECS solutions in their Living Labs. From community-supported agriculture to water recycling technologies, they've paved the way for greener, more sustainable urban living. We also met with the City Teams in the Follower Cities, who co-developed Edible City Master Plans tailored to their unique urban contexts, addressing specific societal challenges. On the second day, we gathered at Prinzessinnengarten for some workshops on how to maintain our network after the project ends. 📢 Missed the event? Don't worry! We'll soon be uploading the recordings from the keynote speeches on the first day to our YouTube channel. Stay tuned. A huge shoutout to everyone who joined us in Berlin! Your passion and dedication to building sustainable, edible cities are truly inspiring. Let's continue to sow the seeds of change and cultivate a greener, more sustainable future for all. Together, we can make our cities not just places to live, but places to thrive. 🌆💚 #EdibleCitiesNetwork #SustainableUrbanLiving #GreenCities #ECSolutions #BerlinMeeting #SustainabilityGoals Stiftung Berliner Schloss - Humboldtforum European Commission
