Just published! Comparative environmental and economic assessment of emerging hydrometallurgical recycling technologies for Li-ion battery cathodes published in Journal of Sustainable Production and Consumption (SPC). The increasing demand for electric vehicles has led to growing concerns regarding battery recycling, particularly for critical raw materials. However, there has been insufficient research on the environmental and economic impacts of hydrometallurgical recycling methods. Emerging hydrometallurgical technologies have been investigated for the recovery of Co, Ni, and Mn oxides from waste LiNi0.33Mn0.33Co0.33O2 cathode materials derived from spent Li-ion batteries. The results indicate that deep eutectic solvent-based leaching exhibits the highest impact, whereas electrolysis-based leaching demonstrates the least impact. Ion exchange-based purification showed the lowest impact, with the exception of stratospheric ozone depletion. Please enjoy the discussion in the paper, Full open access at: https://lnkd.in/eUw5cZCH

Discover how a data-driven approach to sustainability is helping the Danish chemical startup Again to effectively present and communicate the benefits of their solution. "We had struggled with finding an LCA partner that could visualize and communicate the benefit of using waste CO2 emissions as a key feedstock. ClimatePoint helps us do that,” says Ida Rask Kongsgaard, Again’s Commercial Lead. By converting CO2 into chemicals using biology instead of traditional chemistry, they are offering a glimpse into the future of chemical manufacturing. Putting CO2 to good use. 🌍🔬 How Again’s Acetic Acid Is Leading Green Chemistry 👉 https://lnkd.in/dPUgXGtX #ClimateImpact #LCA #FutureOfManufacturing #GreenTech
