My name is Laura Lynn Morrissey. At 59, with a robust career spanning decades in both financial services and healthcare, culminating in the successful sale of my own healthcare company, I thought finding a new leadership role would be straightforward. I had this unique set of skills - a blend of financial services and healthcare and a robust LinkedIn network - I am going to nail my reentry thing! But the journey that unfolded wasn’t the one I expected. Despite my deep experience, passion, and readiness to contribute at a high level, my applications were met with a surprising and consistent response: rejection. I was surprised at first, saddened as it continued, and finally, I became determined. This was a new challenge for me—I had never struggled to attract job offers before. But here I was, feeling invisible, sidelined by an age bias I hadn’t anticipated. That’s when I decided it was time for change—not just for me but for all seasoned professionals facing similar barriers. I founded SilverSavvy, a platform dedicated to valuing the rich experience and wisdom that comes with age. SilverSavvy isn’t just a company; it’s a statement. We’re here to shift the dialogue on aging in the workforce, proving every day that experience isn’t just about years lived but about lessons learned and shared. Today I'm announcing it. But it's been a long time coming. My community Pick 'n Mix is closing down. Now, this may not mean anything to you. What's Pick 'n Mix? And why should I care? And I wouldn't blame you. You see, back in 2022 I saw a need. A need for connection. A need to celebrate everything creative. A need to embrace the fact that we have multiple passions (little p) and many talents. A need to have an easy way of finding out what OTHERS do for a living and easily widen our horizons. It was GREAT! We had lots of events. From webinars to workshops, Book Club to Ideas Club, networking to The Artist's Way Group. And THAT's what I want to celebrate over the next two weeks, until Pick 'n Mix closes on 17 August. That - and the fact that I've been able to curb my Restless Saboteur and am going to FOCUS. Focus on supporting my clients in finding fulfilling work and creating happy careers. Focus on helping clients unlock their creativity so that they can come up with ideas for what they'd like to do next in their career and create THEIR creative life. Focus on creating helpful content here on LinkedIn. (Hit the bell if you don't want to miss any of it!) Focus on writing my long-form Career Freedom newsletter on Substack and forming my community around that. Focus. Not easy for a multi-passionate. A challenge for the Restless.
