September is Ovarian Cancer awareness month. I got involved with Ovarian Cancer Project through Ingram Micro and our Community Engagement initiatives and was lucky to meet and learn more about Kathleen Kelly Maxian and her work each year at our Awareness day. We formed a friendship and I am always amazed at how smart, inspiring and overall bad ass she is! Yesterday was the inaugural Empowering Steps walk honoring Kathleen and all she has worked for to help so many women and families affected by gynecologic cancers. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this organization. We had 300+ people participate in the walk and raised over $30K for the org🎉🫶 Thank you to Marianne Hoover for your leadership and talent to put this all together and to the rest of our board for planning and execution of the day. Had a great day at the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County Women United Gateway to Golf event. (Even though I will be sticking to tennis b/c I can’t even hit a golf ball) spending the day with these ladies made it even more fun🏌️♀️⛳️💕 Ingram Micro sponsors many events and programs through the United Way and other local organizations in need making a big impact in the community. The Ovarian Cancer Project (OCP) is 100% funded by generous donations from the community. More than 12 years ago, the OCP was founded by Kathleen Maxian, a 15-year survivor of advanced stage ovarian cancer, as she found there was no education, awareness, or support for the disease she was fighting. She realized patients and families needed evidence-based information and programs to empower them in their battle with gynecologic cancer. The OCP is excited to host the first Empowering Steps Walk on September 15th at Beaver Island State Park. The funds raised will enable us to provide invaluable free education and supportive services for ovarian and gynecologic cancer survivors and family members. Visit our website for information on the OCP and our walk: https://lnkd.in/e_4Ra6NS. Does your company offer associates paid volunteer hours? Ingram Micro does! Giving back and volunteering in the communities where we live and work is super important and I love that we are given this opportunity. We were able to use our hours again this year for the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County Day of Caring. 49 of us along with a few other companies spent the morning packing 5000 emergency kits for those in need.
