We are back at it again this year, raising money for March of Dimes! Please join me and my fellow E&Y colleagues in our fundraiser by donating in the attached link; any amount helps and is greatly appreciated! If you cannot donate, please join our team and walk with us Sunday, April 16, 2023 on the North Shore (beginning on Art Rooney Ave.) to celebrate, honour or remember babies with others who care (festivities begin at 8:30am). I am grateful for the folks at March of Dimes who work tirelessly to support fundraisers like ours and spread awareness of the cause nationwide. Here are some facts that surprised me to read on the health of moms and babies in the USA: • The U.S remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth. • Every year in the U.S., approximately 360,000 babies are born too soon. • In this country 1 in 10 babies is born preterm each year. • Black and American Indian/Alaska Native women are up to 60 percent more likely to give birth preterm compared to White women. • 2 women will die from pregnancy related causes today. • Nearly 900 women die from pregnancy-related causes and that rate has doubled over the last 30 years. More than 80 percent of these deaths are preventable. • Black women are 3x more likely to die than White women (CDC).
