As I prepare for trial, or periodically for general retraining, I re-read the amazing book "Running with the Bulls" by Courtney and Nick Rowley. They suggest brutal honesty with ourselves about whether we truly know our clients and connect with them.  Here’s some of their insightful questions: 1. Do you know the names of your clients’ parents, children, and close friends? 2. What were their childhoods like? Do you know their favorite family vacations? Favorite holiday memories? Favorite childhood friends? 3. Where did they meet their spouses? How did they fall in love? 4. What do your clients’ daily lives look like? What are their hobbies and interests? Are they sports fans or movie buffs? What are their favorite things? Where do they find joy? 5. What are your clients’ talents? What are they truly good at? Are they insightful friends, talented athletes, or gifted musicians? 6. What are your clients’ faiths or spiritual practices? How do these affect their daily lives? Do your clients’ beliefs affect their thoughts on a lawsuit at all? 7. What are your clients’ biggest fears about the future? 8. What do your clients hope for and dream about happening in the next twenty years? 9. What are your clients’ biggest regrets? What are their proudest moments? 10. If your clients could get one thing out of their cases and walk away, what would it be? Why? 11. How do your clients feel about their injuries? Is there anything positive to be gained from the way they’ve been harmed? What would make them whole? 12. How do your clients view the defendants in their cases? What are their feelings about them? 13. How do your clients feel about money? What are their fears and internal beliefs about value? These questions are designed to gain a deeper understanding of our clients, their lives, and perspectives.  In turn, it gives us purpose behind what we're fighting for, and can lead to uncovering context clues to prove your point and bring justice for your clients. #lawyer #law #lawfirm #success #personalgrowth

We're reaching the stage where we watch a lot of Bing, at home. Where do I start? 🤦♀️ Why does Pando take his pants off ALL THE TIME?! Why is Bing Bunny such a whiney little *@£%? Today's episode was called Knack and was all about them finding the thing they have a knack for. So far so good. Exploring each other's skills and celebrating them. 🍾 But Whiney Bunny wanted his own special knack so they all had to watch him show off until he found the random thing only he could do. 🤔 In the business world we talk a huge amount about finding our USP. And it isn't something I've subscribed to entirely. The fact is, sometimes what set's us apart isn't that we're doing something different but that we're doing it better. Take the legal directories world. There are several agencies and consultants doing this work. And across the group, we probably do many of the same things. So much of my life was spent being shoved into boxes. It seems like the world just wants to look at people, identify them, and put them somewhere. And when people don’t fit their exact box, they freak out. For most of my life, I tried confirming to everyone’s boxes, thinking this was what we’re supposed to do. It made everyone else happy and slowly my smothered my light and creativity. I finally realized these past few years that people pleasing was preventing me from becoming my true self and thinking creatively and outside of the box. I let go of a lot of relationships, perceptions, values, and old things that no longer served me. With all the newfound energy and time from cutting out the noise, I was able to focus on the blank slate in front of me, and building something new. We created a modern firm bringing law into the digital era, and showing young lawyers and law students that they can counsel creatively in an authentic way. There’s so much power in taking a minute to stop and think about the rules, systems, influences, and forces that are shaping and manipulating you into a certain direction in life. Once you start to question those things, you see that the boxes aren’t real; they’re mental. And you can rise above by setting them aside and looking at your life as a blank canvas, taking back control of the paintbrush to start creating the personal and professional life of your dreams. #lawyers #lawstudents #trademarklawyer

Not an attorney yet.. however been through the same exact way.

Just the other day, I had an amazing phone call with one of my best friends, Natalie Cashmere. We ended up having such a positive conversation, and by the end of it, I realized what an amazing impact her optimism had on my day. While in law school, it can be difficult to talk in the positive. It's a far easier conversation starter to complain about readings and assignments than to go on about what a great time you're having pulling all-nighters. But I always feel significantly better after I speak positively with friends like Natalie Cashmere. We both talk about how excited we are for the future, things we're grateful for, and help each other work through problems. I've also found that it's important to have positive conversations with yourself. If you're on LinkedIn and reading this---chances are that you've spoken unkindly to yourself at one time or another. It's the reality of being in a profession. While I'm still working on following this advice myself, I would encourage any new law students to create positive conversations and catch yourself when you're speaking negatively about yourself. #100daychallenge #lawstudent #bodybuilding ------ Hi I'm Katherine!
