Warning - this is an inspirational piece of writing! As laid out, here is hope for the Federal EPA and other agencies to continue their regulatory role even after the Chevron Supreme Court ruling. Love the hope this article provides. Many thanks to Chris Baker for enlighten us about it!
An exciting proposal to use the fall of the chevron doctrine (widely considered a travesty against the environment) to charge forward to greater environmental protection. https://lnkd.in/g2yu7N47

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday tapped former representative Lee Zeldin of New York to serve as Environmental Protection Agency administrator, with the expectation that he will preside over the rollback of certain environmental policies that have been seen as too restrictive for businesses. We expect clean energy, climate, and stormwater policies to be among those first curtailed. #EPA #environment #business #policy

I am thrilled to publish today my first ever Chief Regulator’s Report, a review of all the activities the Environment Agency regulated in 2023-24. I am calling for reforms to the regulatory framework to help us deliver the change needed to better protect communities and the environment and enable businesses to grow. I’m pleased to say that 93% of business comply with their permits and meet the standard required, but there are still rogue operators who continue to be reckless, harming their local communities, and they were punished with hefty fines totalling £8.7 million over the last year. The report also looks at the Environment Agency’s own performance as a regulator and identifies the changes needed to help England respond to a changing environment and support government priorities.

This is worthy of a read. The first Chief Regulator’s Report demonstrating that the Environment Agency’s role in regulating business is more important than ever. It also recognises that the challenges ahead mean that we need to be agile and pragmatic, working collaboratively with communities and technology providers but maintaining a robust approach to protecting, and improving the environment. And, where we need to, intervening and taking proportionate enforcement action.
