Charlotte Johnstone reports: The firm’s revenue has hit £196.6 million for 2023, a significant increase of £63 million on 2022, when revenue stood at £133.6 million. It comes in a year that the litigation powerhouse took on major mandates for Credit Suisse investors, among others. Profit has also leapt 60% from £94.87 million in 2022 to £153.6 million for 2023. Both increases mark the second year in a row that Quinn Emanuel has boasted profit and revenue leaps, following a year of flattening growth in 2021. https://lnkd.in/gsKRw2g7

Having begun 2023 heavily engaged in one of The Lawyer's Top 20 cases of that year, Qatar Airways v Airbus, it is fantastic to have one of our banking cases, APPG v FCA, listed in the Top 20 of 2024. The APPG on Fair Business Banking is a cross-party group of MPs and Peers, formerly co-chaired by Kevin Hollinrake MP and now by William Wragg MP, with a long history of supporting banking customers. Our claim against the UK Financial Conduct Authority seeks a review of the FCA's decision not to act on the finding of its own reviewer, John Swift KC, that the FSA unlawfully imposed a 'sophistication' test that excluded around a third of customers from receiving redress for mis-sold interest rate hedging products. The IRHP scandal is one of the worst in British banking history. As I know from our stakeholder group co-ordinated by the Transparency Task Force, many victims still deeply suffer its impact. If successful, the review could unlock compensation of up to £3 billion for bank customers. Mr Justice Fordham gave a positive permission judgment last year and in the formidable hands of our Counsel team, Thomas Roe KC and Anna Lintner, the Hausfeld team (Simon Bishop, Rachael Baillie, Alex Cooper and me) look forward to the trial this year. The two permission judgments contain interesting observations about regulator responsibilities and costs in crowdfunded cases. More info here: https://lnkd.in/dSQYRFHj.
In what has become one of the most anticipated features each year, The Lawyer Top 20 Litigation for 2024 includes the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Fair Business Banking v The Financial Conduct Authority as one to watch. Our client, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Fair Business Banking (APPG) seeks to overturn a decision by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) relating to the interest rate hedging products disgrace, one of the worst scandals in British banking. If successful, banks could be required to pay a further £3.2bn to customers who were mis-sold interest rate swaps. The case team includes Ned Beale, Simon Bishop, Rachael Baillie and Alex Cooper. Let’s hope justice prevails! https://lnkd.in/e4Q7sa7f

LPL Financial has been dinged more than $6M for its alleged failure to make sure its representatives had recorded more than 830,000 securities transactions. To at least one investor advocate, that’s little more than the “cost of doing business.” With comments from: Douglas Schulz, a securities lawyer and the president of INVEST SECURITIES CONSULTING, INC.; Hugh Berkson, a partner at McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co., LPA; and Michael Edmiston, a securities lawyer at Law Offices of Jonathan W.
