Why are there so many lawn care companies? Drive through a neighborhood and you’ll see 7 different companies mowing lawns despite the fact these people are all neighbors. There are low barriers to entry, but how do new, small lawn care companies continue to pop up and survive? 1️⃣ Personalized service The small companies need great customer support, and they need to be attentive and listen to customer pain points. What does the customer care about most — price, quality, consistency? Being able to adapt to a customer is a benefit that the standardized franchises may not be able to offer. 2️⃣ Cost Speaking of having benefits over a larger franchise — the smaller companies are usually much more cost effective for customers. Small companies typically have lower overheads, no franchise fees, and likely fewer marketing costs. This means they can offer a lower rate. 3️⃣ Locality Small companies may have the ability to hyper focus on a small, local area. The larger franchise doesn’t always have a stronghold on the area, which can allow a smaller company to use their local knowledge and word of mouth marketing to their advantage. Larger franchises and other big lawn care companies may offer added assurance in the form of money back guarantees, communications, and reliability. Bar-B-Clean provides services like cleaning barbecues, fixing parts, and selling new grills. They promote a healthy lifestyle for families and lead in the barbecue cleaning industry. Their company began in 2012 when their founder needed his grill cleaned and found few options. Instead of using the one available service, he started his own. It was a success, so he offered franchises in 2014 and has grown since. Bar-B-Clean is a mobile service that cleans your barbecue at home. It's a job many need but often avoid, similar to window or carpet cleaning. Anyone with a grill can use our service. If a grill isn't cleaned by an expert in six months, it can get harmful buildup from old food and pests. This is risky. We also serve homeowner associations, apartment complexes, offices, hotels, and Airbnb's. This gives our franchise owners more ways to expand. They're one of the fastest growing home service franchises because they have low investment costs, little competition, low overhead, big territories, a simple model, and flexible hours. Hey all. Having returned from a very wet skiing trip to Italy, it's time to get back to work and, although I'm missing my daily Bombadino (warm advocaat, brandy and whipped cream) after a few hours trying to remember to keep my weight on my bottom ski, stand up, bend down, put my shoulders down the hill and smile.....I'm delighted to introduce you to my latest client, the most successful full-service (not just dogs) pet care franchise in the UK, We Love Pets. "But Louise, you need facts to back up a statement like that"...Indeed I do and here they are: We Love Pets has 112 franchisees covering 187 territories, blowing all their competitors out of the water. #facts So here's my first story with them. They ran an anonymous franchisee survey with some spectacular results. 91% of franchisees who responded, said they agreed or strongly agreed with the statement ‘I love being part of the We Love Pets Family.' Pretty impressive. Over the years I've written hundreds of articles about how to buy a franchise safely - and the number one piece of advice is always 'talk to the other franchisees'. Franchisees don't hold back; for better or for worse they tell it like it is. How on earth Ryan White and Jo White and their team manage to keep 112 franchisees so happy is beyond me, but what I do know is that they value transparency and straight-talking above anything, hence making the survey anonymous. Their rationale was, how could they improve if they didn't know what the problems were? A brave move and one that perfectly reflects their professionalism and why I'm so glad to be finally working with them and telling their story. Franchisee Spotlight 💥 - Bloomin' Blinds is changing lives! Meet Dominic M. of St. Louis, MO. Before Bloomin’ Blinds, he was part owner of a trucking company. He was over working 24 hours 7days a week. Work was always on his mind and he was in a constant state of "issues" with both drivers and customers. This was leading to #burnout and propelled him to look for something that would allow him to have a more flexible schedule. Doing his due diligence, he vetted several different blind companies specifically, and ended up loving the opportunity that Bloomin’ Blinds presented. Dominic says "Now that I am fully immersed with Bloomin’, my life tends to be less stressful and the flexible schedule has allowed me to take more time for our family." Dominic is an owner/operator, currently servicing 2 territories. He launched in 2023 and is working towards scaling his business. His vision is to have 3 vans on the road within 5 years. Dominic is focused on community connections and establishing a reputation for himself.
