#MeetLLNL's David Ethridge! He found an interest in drafting as part of a woodshop course in junior high school and connected his newfound passion to real-world projects. Today, he works with the United States Department of Defense’s Technologies program on optional designs at the Lab. Learn more about Ethridge's journey to #LLNL: https://lnkd.in/g7dSvAyR

Fellow young engineers, Reprogram your mind for Career Success You have to intentionally reprogram your mind to become the ultimate engineer you dreamed about. Success in CAD Design and Engineering in general is like riding a bike, You see other people rigid around so you know it is possible. However, before you can do the same, you are gonna wipe out a few times, After getting back up, you eventually peddle it like a pro. The same is true for what you are learning here at RoadsHub, CAD Skills Do not expect to figure it out on day 1 or even week 1, we are reprogramming your mind first. Results will surely come if you diligently follow the steps You are just as worthy, deserving, and capable of achieving everything that you want, in every area of your life as any other person on earth. We are here to guide by leading the way #TheultimateEngineer #RoadHub #engineeringexcellence #civilengineering

🎥 Understanding Structural Dynamics with LEGO! 🏗️🚀 Ever wondered how engineers determine where positive or negative bending moments occur along a span? The fun and engaging way to show you using everyone's favorite building blocks—LEGO! In this educational video, let's explore a simple rule-of-thumb that uses deflected shapes to identify bending moments in structures. Just like expressions in our faces, structures also show "emotions": Smiley 😊 faces indicate areas of positive bending. Frowns ☹️ faces point to areas of negative bending. This method not only simplifies complex engineering concepts but also makes learning interactive and enjoyable. Whether you’re a student trying to grasp the basics of structural engineering or a professional brushing up on your skills, this video is perfect for you! Day 13, and I wanted to show you all this: https://lnkd.in/ebDnKf_U On the front cover, you'll see me designing a very questionable 'aeroplane', which does seem a bit more like a rocket. However, ignoring that, I was able to do this after about an hour of learning how to use SketchUp. So, when will I ever use SketchUp in the future? I'm not 100% sure if I even will, but I'm still grateful to learn the knowledge. It was a lot of fun to do and then compare my 3D model with other people's (trust me, it is quite good comparatively). I guess what I'm trying to say is it's important to gain as much knowledge as possible; it doesn't have to all be relevant, just interesting and fun to learn! See you all on Day 14!

I am excited to represent Expedition Engineering Ltd at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) Knowledge Exchange Workshop on Geometric Rigidity, Graphic Statics and Engineering this week, supported by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). I'm looking forward to learning a lot from a great line up of attendees and speakers. For those who haven’t come across it before, one of the topics, Graphic Statics, is an old analysis method, with versions of it used to help design cathedral domes and flying buttresses. It combines a diagram of a structure’s geometry with a complementary 'equilibrium' diagram of the forces that are flowing through it. Graphic statics has the fantastic quality of allowing designers to build up insight into how their structure is working and intelligently to find a form and flow of forces that work well together. Today, programs like RhinoVault allow interactive generation of these diagrams – seeing instantly how changes to one diagram influences the other. These programs also allow graphic statics to be applied to truly 3D forms, rather than being mostly constrained to 2D trusses or forms with rotational symmetry. I would recommend a leaf through Bill Baker's paper (https://lnkd.in/erUVTeiv) to get inspired.

You don't need CAD models to have productive engineering discussions. Want to learn how to sketch? I'm teaching a LIVE course in Spring 2024 to help you gain new skills. Send me a DM with your favorite food if you're interested, I'll get you on the early invite list. Think with your pen out; sketching is a superpower for engineers. #sketchyengineering

12d Model Instructor-Led Online Training - Rail/Track Design Date: 21st & 22nd March 2024 Time: 11am to 2:30pm (AEDT - Sydney time), with a half-hour break for lunch, each day Register: https://ow.ly/JhYv50Qw8Uz Course Content: • Generation of a track centreline from surveyed rails. • Use of super alignment regression. Regression is used to develop existing geometry from a survey when the original design data is unavailable. • Use of Super Alignment parts, Computators, and the IP method within the HIP/VIP editor, part editor and edit parts panels. • Design of a mainline and passing loop. • Version control and revision of horizontal and vertical alignment geometry with centreline options. • Assessment of track slew and various reporting methods. • Application of chainage equalities and inquiries between raw chainages and chainage equalities. • Generation of a rail formation, and a sub-ballast capping layer using snippets. • Generation of a rail profile for 3D rail visualisation. • Creation and placement of turnouts. • Calculation of rail cant to speed limits and various design constraints. Reporting methods for rail cant. • Creation of rails, ballast strings, sleepers and a circular bored tunnel. • Generation of a structural clearance envelope. • Generation of a longitudinal profile, labelling of an alignment with geometry boxes, and plotting a plan profile using the multipage plot.
