If I could snap my fingers and make three-quarters of guns in the U.S. disappear, I would. There are just too many (more than one per person). On the other hand, this story clarifies that citizens with guns routinely stop criminals. I know of examples among my friends and family. What the article fails to also mention is that there are surely a larger number of crimes that are never initiated because criminals don’t want to take the risk that their potential victims may have a gun. No one knows how many crimes didn’t happen because Americans possess firearms. Also notable: people of color are vastly more likely to be be assaulted with firearms (mostly by other PoCs); most firearm deaths among whites are due to suicide. Interpret that as you may. https://lnkd.in/dgKxQe2p

This report by the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions, one of our grantees, examines how gun violence threatens our democracy and undermines civic engagement. It’s well worth a read, particularly the recommendations for how we can protect our democracy through Extreme Risk Protection Orders, also known as red flag laws, and other proven solutions. #EndGunViolence
There is a growing threat of insurrectionist ideologies advanced by extremist and anti-government groups across the U.S. Less restrictive gun laws are associated with increased crime and make it easier to disrupt political spaces. Read on: https://lnkd.in/eXrdy-pV

TDC can post whatever they want, we have freedom of speech ensured by our Constitution. Actually, anyone can post whatever they want, although the LinkedIn fact checkers seem to hinder the posts of conservatives, even when they are factually correct. My purpose in this post is to advise everyone to do your own fact checking. The TDC post here is not true! Check it out yourself!
Guns are the No. 1 killer of children. Joe Biden is doing something about it. Trump does what the NRA tells him to do. But let's go even further - tell Congress to ban assault weapons and large capacity magazines and pass comprehensive legislation to reduce gun violence here: http://bit.ly/31cmLXG #GunSafetyNow

“…Much more can be done. Among the myriad possibilities: the #Surgeon General could provide biannual reports on #guns and #suicide; the federal government could both conduct and fund #research into smart guns and safer means of home protection than owning a #handgun; #police could have social workers embedded in precincts; the faith #community could make it clear that it is a cardinal sin to sell a gun to a stranger without a background check. Probably the most important thing our #country can do is to elect more officials who will help make changes where the effect will be greatest — in the gun industry and the gun #culture.

As Secretary Becerra continues to guide the nation through a transformation in healthcare technology and treatment that transitions us from a reactionary illness based treatment system to one that is more proactive, and wellness based; We must also look to eliminate those things that take life, such as gun violence. The Department of Health and Human Services continues to partner and collaborate with the White House on initiatives to address and improve measures on assault weapons and gun violence nationwide. Assault weapons should not be available for public purchase. America needs a comprehensive gun law program which evaluates how we distribute firearms within our communities without violating constitutional rights. Guns are the #1 killer of children in the United States! - more than car accidents - more than cancer And over the past TWO decades, more high school students have died from gunshots than on-duty police officers and active-duty military Soldiers combined. We CAN’T just standby and let this continue to happen to our babies! White House news clip on gun safety: https://lnkd.in/eZ99ueNw

The attempted assassination of former President Trump is a wake-up call for the nation. We don’t have to live in constant fear of political violence. Co-director Joshua Horwitz and law and policy advisor Tim Carey answer the looming questions: how is it so easy for those who want to commit political violence to acquire firearms? And what are we going to do about it? Read their new op-ed in The Trace to find out this and more: https://lnkd.in/eR4s_A6C

Republicans try to address the root cause while protecting and abiding by the US Constitution. To me, Democrats live in a world where inanimate objects like guns, poisons, knives, metal pipes, rocks, and a plethora of other objects are the reason for murder and suicides. Reality tells me guns do not fire without someone holding them and all others without a person using them. The root cause is the human being with mental illness, evil intention, by accident, or by self-defense. We have laws that prohibit killing. So, how many criminals and evil-doers abide by the law? Yet Democrats, in my opinion, would rather "infringe" on law-abiding US citizens' Constitutional Right to bear arms and not address the root cause.
Exactly this - it's the guns, stupid 👇 Tell Congress to ban assault weapons and large capacity magazines and pass comprehensive legislation to reduce gun violence here: http://bit.ly/31cmLXG #GunSafetyNow

UNYIELDING PROTECTORS: BATTLING SHADOWS AND DEFYING ODDS It is unjust and negligent to expect police officers to optimally perform their duties without access to dependable vehicles and an adequate supply of bulletproof vests, weapons, and radios. There is compelling and incontrovertible evidence indicating the necessity for an extensive examination of the staffing, training, and provision of resources at police stations. It is imperative to promptly identify and address the underlying causes of these deficiencies. https://lnkd.in/d947bX44
