As a beneficiary of this I cannot agree more. Our IT and marketing teams did a great job preparing our clients and many of us came back to nearly empty in boxes. It was brilliant!
🙌🏽 I appreciate Sampath’s encouragement to pause on the Global Day of Unplugging. A call to step back from the ever-present work texts, emails, and to-do lists, emphasizing the importance of connecting with what truly matters – people.
Reflecting on this, my family recently battled a long cold/flu virus, and once we recovered, we committed to reinstating the positive habits we set at the beginning of the year. The early mornings for deep work and gym sessions resumed, but a more significant habit emerged – the intentional act of unplugging.
After the workday ends and our kids return to their comfort zone at home, we make it a point to put our devices away. No exceptions. From that moment until their bedtime, we engage fully – watching movies, completing homework, and reading books with my 4 and 2-year-olds. In a world where children are accustomed to YouTube-style videos, this deliberate unplugging has allowed us to bond more deeply and foster the development of their capabilities.
Sampath’s suggestion to go for a walk, read a book, have a relaxed coffee, or play a board game aligns with our newfound appreciation for the art of unplugging. It’s not just a break from technology; it’s a conscious effort to create moments that truly matter. 🤍
Verizon’s purpose is connecting our customers to the things and people that they love. Think about it – our world is constantly buzzing with work texts and emails, to do lists, family events, errands and more, we're constantly connected and we rarely STOP.
So this Friday, March 1st, at sunset, I encourage you to unplug to celebrate the Global Day of Unplugging.
Why? Because as much as we love technology, what matters most is connecting with the people that matter.
My suggestions:
- Go for a walk.
- Pick up that book - I just finished "Same as Ever" by Morgan Housel- Review coming soon.
- Have a relaxed coffee with a colleague with no agenda
- Play a board game - Risk is very hot at our home right now.
I’m inviting friends to join me and unplug. Hans Vestberg, Kevin Zavaglia, Nancy Clark, Matthew Carr, and Justin B. Smith, what do you plan to do to Unplug?

Did you know that March 1st is National Day of Unplugging? Technology is a double-edged sword. It lets us log in remotely and work from anywhere but it also keeps many of us perpetually tethered, even when we need a break. Check out this article from Morgan Stanley for a few quick tips on how to unplug.

There's a lot of talk (from myself and others) about the need to unplug. But what exactly are we unplugging from? Because it's more than just ditching your phone.
I'm curious, what comes up for you when I say "unplug"? What does it mean to you? What are you unplugging from? Share your thoughts below.

Today, Friday 1st March is National Unplugging Day.

Since 2009, Global Day of Unplugging has been celebrated annually in March. Whether it is 1 hour or 24 hours, at some point during the first weekend of March, people all over the world, will step away from their screens and intentionally shift into an offline activity, an in-person interaction, a real-life gathering or simply a meaningful conversation about their relationship with technology
We all are guilty of using our phones, TV, Tablets or computers too much ( I know I certainly am!). Especially when we should be stepping away from the screen and ESPECIALLY on our lunch break, what do we do - go check our phone, socials or watch TV when we should be using that time to re-energize and refresh - perhaps listen to some music, do some exercise, meditate, have some lunch, have a cuppa with our family or friends or even read. There are so many things we can do that don't involve technology.
Here are some things you could do to unplug:
Leave your phone out of reach (don't have it in the same room as you).
Delete Social Media apps on your phone.
Think about your favourite book you want to read again or pick up a book you have always wanted to read.
Be in the moment, spend time with your family or friends when you are with them.
Go get some fresh air! Take a break on your lunch break away from technology.
I am going to attempt to give this a go this weekend, even if it's for a couple of hours or a day. Let me know if you are going to join me!

🎧 Why did it take me so long to get Loop Earplugs? 🎧
My attention span and ability to zone in to my task has elevated in a way that I was legitimately sceptical of.
When my Loops are in I am not just able to focus better but I feel so much calmer. Some may laugh and not get it but for those of us with sensitivity to forms of sensory overload, it's so frustrating and sometimes debilitating. These Loops have been an absolute gamechanger.
I used to think it was a 'me' thing and that I was strange. Some still might think I am - I guess that is their problem, not mine. However, seeing many people on social media being so open made me be like 'oh hang on, this is a real thing - not just a me problem'.
So if you, like me, thought it was just you OR if you have also been sceptical - you can try them. They have a returns policy that allows you to see if they suit you.*
If you are a manager, or have influence in your workplace, sharing information about Loops, and other forms of earplugs/earphones, can help with staff inclusion in varying workspaces!
*FYI I am in now way linked to Loop, I get no benefits from this haha I just love them.
