Today, on National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, we recognize the impact of HIV among Native populations and highlight the critical work happening in communities around the country to engage Native people, including American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians, in fully ending the HIV epidemic. The theme for the 2024 observance of NNHAAD, annually recognized on the first day of Spring, is "It's All Relative, Our Experience Makes a Difference." New publication alert! Check out my latest study on faith based leadears perspectives on HIV prevention programs for Black youth. I’m so proud of this article for many reasons. We need to engage spiritual and faith-based leaders by way of educating them first on the importance of learning about prevention education. Many leaders are already doing the work, but there is so much more work to do to end the HIV epidemic! https://lnkd.in/eqAUhJkZ

On this day… In 1997, former President Bill Clinton declared, “Only a truly effective, preventative HIV vaccine can limit and eventually eliminate the threat of AIDS.” This HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, we recognize and celebrate the many volunteers, health professionals, researchers, scientists and community members who are working together to develop a safe and effective vaccine to prevent HIV. But we must not forget the power of the tools that we already have available, including testing, PEP and PrEP. Both a vaccine and prevention tools have the ability to play a pivotal role in ending the HIV epidemic. #HVAD #EndHIVEpidemic
