One must begin by ensuring the community has a shared vision. How? Through good community organizing and putting in place sound and democratic community-led governance structures. 1. Community must then prioritize their needs and plans through participatory processes. Everyone's voice must count and non-biased unilateral decisions made. (not a walk in the park) 2. Ensure transparency and accountability through each process. (Suspicions must take a back seat) 3. Do not take sides or dictate any on-going processes, instead evaluate progress together as you keep them focused on the anticipated results

The workshop is part of the Energy (in)Equity series — examining how the energy industry perpetuates systemic and racial injustice, and what participants can do to address injustices through individual and collective policy work. (Note for your calendars: it’s happening on Pacific Time.)

Startling research has shown that more and more vital community services are being dropped by other levels of government or private operators and picked up by councils to preserve community liveability. We need a fairer funding deal for Queensland communities. #CostShift Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/ejMZYVBG

Local Government Association of Queensland There is another almost across the board cost impact that could be included in your report. While not categorised as cost shifting from State or Federal, it relates to the mandated or 'highly encouraged' transition of Councils ERP & digital systems from on-premises to SaaS. Since 2021, part of the ERP market signalled mandatory shifts forcing Councils to find significant funds ($millions) and human resources that they normally don't employ. A huge burden on ratepayers. It has been frustrating seeing the lack of support from member organisations like LGAQ in not encouraging shared service/shared implementation resource models (or even shared procurement) to lessen the cost and overall risk. Working together is the way forward for a better outcome overall. Alison Smith #erp #trustedadvisor #localbusiness #digital #transformation #digitalasset

Nature is urban for most people. So, all benefits that come from nature experiences must take into consideration this context. Many cities are now searching for ways to bring nature’s benefits to all children, but policies, power dynamics and perceptions, can make change difficult. Achieving real and lasting change requires a community-based approach to dismantling systems of inequity and disconnection. This is a rather complex, messy, but crucial work to provide the health benefits of nature interaction and grow a relationship with nature that can support future sustainable communities. So, I believe this project is worth advertising. The Cities Connecting Children to Nature initiative supports cities as they work to change and improve citywide systems so that all children have opportunities to play, learn and grow with nature in their daily lives. #citiesforpeople #naturebasedsolutions #natureconnection Children & Nature Network https://lnkd.in/ernT3TrM
