Want to know how important new rules coming out of the UK could be for the long duration energy storage industry? Find out more details in this announcement from LDES Council member Invinity Energy Systems on what the new rules could mean. Long duration energy storage offers what is perhaps the most economical pathway to complete decarbonization of the energy grid, ensuring that renewable energy is never wasted and can be used when it is actually needed -- not just when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing. With research suggesting that new energy storage capacity could lead to savings of up to £24 billion for the UK’s energy system, the Government has announced a new consultation aimed at promoting investment into long duration energy storage (LDES). LDES technologies are likely to play a crucial role in the UK’s transition to net zero, providing the grid with flexibility to support the integration of more renewable energy into the power mix. At our current trajectory, this ‘electricity gap’ could cause 28 hours of blackouts in the year 2035. 🚨 The future of energy supply in the United Kingdom has reached a critical juncture — the difference between the country’s energy demand and the supply available is widening. 📊 The only viable solution to closing the electricity gap is a significant commitment to renewable #energy. ♻️ #Solar power, as the cheapest renewable, offers a path forward if we can get beyond the bureaucratic hurdles and market inertia that stand in our way. ☀️ We’ve written more about the process of achieving consent for renewable energy projects, how to incentivise renewables, and the cost of delay via our blog 👇 https://lnkd.in/gHBG3q79

Wind energy is one of the fastest-growing sources of renewable energy. The Biden administration’s decarbonization goals (i.e., carbon-pollution-free electricity by 2035 and net-zero economy by 2050) will require at least a threefold increase in the U.S. wind energy deployment rate. https://lnkd.in/enZU_E3K #newbook #windenergy #energy #environment

If we subsidise wind and solar, we can incentivise positive changes in the weather. Tax breaks can encourage the sun to shine stronger and the wind to blow harder. It's basic politics. Or we could just arrest the sun and the wind for resisting government protocols.

“Friday's forecast shows little sunlight and minimal wind, which the AESO communications manager says impacts the system — natural gas generators will be needed to make up the difference. We are getting very small amounts of renewable energy coming out of the system.” - CBC News Read article: https://lnkd.in/gRWwMuqS
