It's a time to reflect on the challenges faced by those who lack stable housing and access to nutritious food. Here are a few ways you can get involved: 1. Educate Yourself & Others: Learn about the root causes of homelessness and hunger. Share articles and resources with your friends and family. 2. Volunteer: Offer your time to local shelters, food banks, or community kitchens. Every little bit helps! 3. As the weather gets colder, many in our community face the harsh reality of homelessness with little to no access to shelter. Our outreach program is dedicated to connecting individuals in need with resources to support and uplift them. When our outreach specialists visit encampments or meet people on the street, they bring essential items like protein bars, water, and blankets. This winter, we want to do more. 💚 Our Goal: Collect 30 sets of Hot Hands Hand Warmers to help provide some warmth during these freezing months. This also includes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 15-22), a chance to spotlight these critical issues impacting our communities. At BEDS Plus, we’ve seen firsthand how the housing crisis continues to grow, affecting more people in the places where we live and work. Over the past year, BEDS Plus has helped change the lives of more than 5,000 people, offering essential services, support, and paths to stability. But this mission is ongoing—thousands more in our area need support, and we are committed to providing it with the help of dedicated volunteers and donors. The term covers a range of situations, including people sleeping rough, single individuals living in emergency or temporary supported accommodation, households legally recognised as homeless and seeking assistance from local authorities, and the 'hidden homeless'—such as those ‘sofa surfing’. The growing homeless population presents considerable challenges for agencies striving to provide preventive support and interventions that address complex needs. This tool has been designed to assist practitioners from statutory bodies, charities, and third-sector organizations in gathering information in a way that enables lawful decision-making and fosters effective interventions. These interventions uphold key safeguarding principles, including empowering adults at risk to take steps to protect themselves.
