Last week, the UNSW celebrated four decades since the invention of the Vanadium Flow Battery. Inventor of the battery, Emeritus Professor Maria Skyllas-Kazacos, and her team at UNSW hosted the 40th Anniversary Flow Battery Innovation Symposium, which highlighted the work that led to the development of what is today a critical long-duration energy storage solution. Vanadium Flow Batteries are gaining traction due to their safety, reliability, and long-duration energy storage, and their resulting appeal in grid stabilisation as more renewable energy comes online. 🚀 Exciting News for the Energy Sector! 🚀 SRP and Aypa Power have just announced a groundbreaking new #battery storage system to help meet growing energy demand. They have entered into an agreement to provide 250 megawatts (MW) / 1,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of new #EnergyStorage to the Arizona grid. Utilizing advanced lithium-ion technology, this project will have the capacity to power over 50,000 average-sized residential homes for a four-hour period. The project is scheduled to be operational by mid-year 2026.
