Reflecting on an impactful moment with a student who once remarked, "I thought you were talking only because you have lips," it struck me profoundly. This candid statement highlighted the importance of trust and reliability in our interactions. It dawned on me that this student's skepticism stemmed from past encounters where promises were made but not fulfilled. Over the course of 1.5 years, I gradually built a connection with this student, earning his trust through consistent actions. He emphasized that my credibility stemmed from my follow-through. This experience underscored a critical lesson: integrity and reliability are fundamental in building relationships, whether in education or business. LESSONS FROM TEACHING Dear Managers and Asministrators, Relationship is king. If you want the best performance from employees it is absolutely essential to meet them where they are in their development, establish trust and rapport, and find ways to highlight strengths while remediating weaknesses. We in education have established that these are the best practices for growth. It’s not just about how children grow, but how humans grow. If you are committed to investing in the success of your team, you are committed to the success of each of them as individuals.

Shepherds Educational Philosophy I believe that through education, an individual will receive the skills and tools to build a life that is successful and prosperous. I feel it is very important for students to be encouraged to learn problem solving strategies to use outside of school. It is my duty as an educator to ensure that students feel safe, open and supported during their academic journey. My theory is that students learn best when lesson are student driven. The classroom community that I set ensures that students take the lead when they are learning. The students tell me the best way to teach them and the most important strategies they enjoy learning. Students must have a say and a voice. This strategy teaches students how to advocate for themselves as individuals and as leaders. This strategy of teaching also allows students to be able to problem solve and perfect their critical thinking skills when the come across a conflict.

Stephen Covey, a renowned author, educator, and leadership expert, often emphasized the importance of personal development and effectiveness. In the context of education, Covey believed that one of the biggest challenges is shifting from a traditional, teacher-centered approach to a more student-centered one. Covey advocated for an approach that focuses on developing the whole person—intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. He believed that education should not only impart knowledge but also cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, empathy, and a sense of responsibility. Another challenge Covey highlighted is the need to align education with the needs of the modern world. This involves teaching skills relevant in today's rapidly changing society, such as adaptability, creativity, collaboration, and technological literacy. Moreover, Covey emphasized the importance of instilling a sense of purpose and passion in students, helping them discover their strengths and values, and guiding them to set meaningful goals for their future. Overall, Covey's perspective on education's biggest challenges revolves around the need for a paradigm shift towards student-centered learning, the alignment of education with the demands of the modern world, and the cultivation of purpose and passion in students.

The research is clear - working with small groups of students yields big benefits like personalized instruction, real-time feedback, increased engagement, and collaborative skill development. However, our newest national survey of educators reveals teachers spend just 11% of class time facilitating small groups compared to 24% delivering whole-class lectures with an average of 12% of their time spent on "Classroom Management". Cultures of high expectations can lead to no one taking action to help others out of fear of doing something wrong. "The higher the level of success expected in the school amongst the students, the more afraid they are to raise their hand in a presentation. How many agree there could be a little truth to what I just said? A school with high expectations, people are less likely to raise their hand. Agree, that's true. Say, that's true. I appreciate that. Here's why that happens. Or maybe you can tell me why that happens. Can one of you tell me why that's true? They don't want to be wrong because I've been taught I always have to be right. Correct. And if I am wrong, then what? Then I look like an idiot. So let's just acknowledge what just happened. I'm not going to raise my hand and share why my classmates matter to me because it'll make me look foolish. In a market study conducted by Tripod Education Partners, data from 797 educators nationwide was gathered to comprehend the challenges they currently face and anticipate ahead. One survey question specifically measured how teachers allocate their time in the classroom. This information can be valuable for school and district leaders, offering insights into areas where teachers may need more support so that leaders can adjust their focus, enabling more time and attention to be devoted to small group instruction.
