Not everyone wants to climb the career ladder, and that's perfectly ok! People can also be in different stages of life where having these aspirations may not be possible. It's important to accept that everyone has different goals and aspirations which is why having a one size fits all approach doesn't work. #careeradvice #careerreflections #engineeringrecruitment #stevenbartlett #simonsinek

Job seekers are increasingly seeking flexibility and prioritising balance in their lives. However, there tends to be a lack of honesty and transparency when it comes to conversations with employers because of the stigma. Should these types of conversations about flexibility and balance be normalised at work? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

It all begins with embracing self-honesty. I'm a firm believer in prioritising happiness. Sometimes, the allure of an extra £10k isn't worth the added stress and pressure it brings. Employers play a pivotal role in respecting these sentiments and empowering individuals to pursue their best selves. Let's cultivate environments where personal fulfillment is just as valued as professional success.

Whenever I interview people I ask "if money was no object, how would you be filling your days". Many candidates came back to me and said it was an unconventional question to ask in an interview, but for me it's often the most honest moment of the interview. Since it's a "curveball" question candidates open up and often start talking about their passions. That's what I want in my company, passionate people. That passion doesn't always have to be for the company or our cause. I will always be honest and look for ways that enables them to work AND exercise their passion (inside or outside of work) because they will create great things. If that means they'll "just work for 40h", but happy 40h, they'll contribute immensely to our organization. As long as we then keep talking open and honestly about what we both want, we can achieve extraordinary results. If you don't follow Steven Bartlett and #doac, I suggest you do as there is an abundance of interesting point of views. Even so many I struggle finding the time to listen to it all.

Interesting. I do believe that not every person is born to be an entrepreneur or an investor. There are many craftsmen who enjoy doing their work and don't think about scale, growth (revenue-, sales-wise), or automation. I like the analogy Dr. Ichak Adizes uses in his management books. There are people who are primarily doers (performers) or administrators or integrators (who are great at connecting with people and building strong, lasting relationships) alongside entrepreneurs. But every person is striving for a vision, for contribution, to belong to something bigger than he or she. Therefore, as a leader, your crucial role is to empower people by helping them recognize their unique strengths. By doing what they love and being part of a vision, whether it's their own or someone else's, they can strive, take responsibility, and work with enjoyment and belief in the value of their work. Isn't it?
