Traditional development programs often impose Western solutions on African challenges, overlooking local wisdom and leadership potential. These approaches can inadvertently perpetuate colonial mindsets and dependency on foreign intervention, failing to recognize and develop Africans’ capability to solve African problems. 4africa operates on the belief that the people most qualified to solve African problems are Africans themselves. We select and develop promising young leaders from within East African communities, equipping them with the education, skills, and spiritual foundation needed to transform their nations from within. Our ultimate goal is to make ourselves unnecessary by creating self-sustaining communities led by empowered East African leaders. Learn more at 4africa.com.

As part of the GIBS Nexus Leadership programme, we went on a journey into the past yesterday. We visit the past because it lives with us in the present. It shapes our interactions with each other, our emotional responses, our ability - or inability - to connect meaningfully with one another. Importantly, we visit the past because it raises important questions that we need to grapple with as leaders: If you are angry about the injustices of the past, ask: What injustices in the present can I take action to address? If you feel overwhelmed by impotence when faced with the pain of the past, ask: What is happening today that I do have influence over? If you judge those in the past for failing to ‘see’ - or failing to act - ask yourself: What am I failing to see? Where am I failing to act? South Africa is one of the most unequal countries in the world. We need to ask ourselves: Are we staring that down? Are we having the courageous conversations we need to have to move towards greater equality? Or are we going about our daily lives - as many did under Apartheid - and choosing not to see.

A strong call to action to ensure that the wisdom and experience of the current leadership is complemented - and enhanced - through listening to the voice of the nation’s young people. 🌍 Strengthening Relationships for a Resilient Pacific 🌍 Our Chair, Anne Fitisemanu, and CEO, Joanna Bourke, recently completed a productive visit to Fiji. They connected with key leaders and organisations that play an essential role in the Pacific region. At PCF, we know how vital it is to remain visible, foster relationships, and engage with multilateral organisations and regional partners. These connections are key to advancing our mission of amplifying Pacific voices, strengthening strategic partnerships, and supporting sustainable regional development. Our visit was a crucial step in building lasting partnerships and reaffirming PCF’s commitment to collaboratively addressing the challenges and opportunities in the Pacific. We look forward to nurturing these relationships and creating meaningful pathways for shared growth and resilience. #PacificCooperation #RegionalPartnerships #SustainableDevelopment #PCF #PacificLeadership #Collaboration #MultilateralEngagement
