In response to the notion that the strongest businesses rely solely on a team, let's not forget the power of a singular vision. While it's true that no one person can know everything, history shows us that one person's vision can indeed drive a team to new heights or into uncharted territories. Take Lee Iacocca, for instance. His vision and leadership pulled Chrysler back from the brink. Or consider Walt Disney, whose innovative thinking created an entertainment empire. Steve Jobs, though often celebrated for his successes, also faced numerous failures driven by his bold vision. Leadership does not happen in a vacuum. If you have the opportunity and good fortune to lead a team, make sure to surround yourself with people who are experts in their respective trades or lines of expertise. Not any one person needs to be an expert on everything and neither do you. Accept that you yourself are not all knowing and you have the gift of being able to learn from those around you. Mold your team so that they foster a culture of team work, mutual understanding and a strong motivation to achieve common goals. Help them learn how to win with grace and lose with a yearning to learn, analyze and bounce back. Leadership is about servitude to those that work for you, not the other way around. Be of service, lead by example, coach, train, teach, understand, show empathy, and learn from those you lead so you can then export that knowledge to the rest of your team. Teams perform better when they learn from each other. Leadership happens on the ground and in the front, not in a silo away from the front lines. Fill in your team’s gaps yourself and teach your team how to close them on their own. Help them succeed together, that’s where breakthrough results happen. Focus on taking care of the people that take care of your business first, long term success will follow. I am a firm believer in people first, then process, follow through and then success. People is the first lead indicator for a successful organization. Take care of your people and lead along side them shoulder to shoulder, breakthrough results will be just around the corner.

💡 Love this for many reasons! Few thoughts: 1. Leaders don’t need to be experts in everything they lead; rather, build a team of experts for the collective growth and strength of a team. Let your people leaders lead and set the vision / mission. 2. Value skills & capabilities over experience. Your most driven employees can learn what they need to grow. 3. Individuals can lean on each other to develop their strengths. 🔑 Unlock your team’s potential. For a team building activity, do a “Skills Marketplace” exercise. ➡️ Each team member documents 2-4 strengths and 2-4 opportunity areas. ➡️Have each team member mark down next to their teammate which strength they have so they can help develop another.
