Supporting women in the field of engineering is crucial for fostering diversity, innovation and progress in the technological landscape. Historically, women have been underrepresented in engineering, limiting the diversity of perspectives and ideas in the field. Women in Engineering (WiE) at Western University is a student group working to provide social and academic support for future and current female students. WiE was created in 1989 to increase the female representation in Western’s engineering program. Since then, female enrollment in Engineering at Western has increased from 9% to 21%. Embracing gender diversity, not only in engineering but in all fields of study, promotes equality and enhances the strength and resilience of every profession. By actively promoting and encouraging women to pursue careers in engineering, we bridge gender gaps and tap into a vast pool of untapped talent.

Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science! 🌐👩🔬 Let's acknowledge the incredible contributions of women in STEM fields and inspire the next generation. According to the Women's engineering society (WES) "Women make up 16.5% of all engineers, compared to 10.5% reported in 2010" and "Young people who attend STEM Outreach events are more likely to know what engineers do- but only a quarter of those surveyed had been to such an event." Let us strive to promote STEM jobs to the younger generation inclusive of young women. It is imperative that we have individuals from different backgrounds working together; we can bring their differences together and create more effective teams and Organisations. #WomenInScience #GirlsInSTEM #IDWGS #diversityinstem #esg

🌟👩🔬🔧👩💻🌟 As we celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science, it's important to recognise the incredible contributions of women in engineering. Did you know that only 12% of engineers in the UK are women? This gender disparity not only highlights the need for greater diversity in the engineering field, but also the immense potential for growth and innovation that comes with it. According to a recent study by the Women's Engineering Society, increasing the number of women in engineering could boost the UK economy by £27 billion per year. It's clear that empowering and supporting women in engineering is not only the right thing to do, but also makes good business sense. In light of this, I am proud to share the achievements of women in engineering, from groundbreaking projects to high-level appointments. Women like Dr. Anne Stevens, who was the first female CEO of a major automotive company, or Dr. Hayaatun Sillem, the first female CEO of the Royal Academy of Engineering, are paving the way for future generations of female engineers. Let's continue to champion and support women in engineering, and work towards a more diverse and inclusive industry. #WomenInEngineering #DiversityInSTEM #EmpowerWomenInScience

In the field of STEM, there is a notable lack of representation of women and girls, both in higher education and professional settings. Globally, less than 30% of scientific researchers are female, and in the United Kingdom, only 35% of university students pursuing STEM subjects are women. For those who have paved the way and those who are yet to come. let's forge a more inclusive world for women.

🌟 Embracing Diversity and Breaking Barriers in Engineering 🌟 As I sit in my physics class, surrounded by an all-male cohort, I can't help but reflect on the journey ahead. Being the sole female presence, aside from the teacher, underscores the ongoing gender disparities in STEM, particularly in engineering But here's the thing – as the first female engineer in my family, I've embraced the challenge head-on. Breaking stereotypes isn't just important; it's absolutely essential. It's about shattering glass ceilings and paving the way for a more inclusive future. It's disheartening that we still need a designated Women in STEM day to highlight the urgency of this matter. However, it serves as a powerful reminder of the work yet to be done. We must continue championing diversity and inclusivity, not just for ourselves but for future generations of aspiring engineers. #WomeninSTEM #Engineering #DiversityandInclusion #BreakingBarriers
