🌏 Opening the LeadWomen APAC DEI Summit 2024 with a Vision for "Humanity Rebalanced" 🌏 Our first panel, "DEI Thought Leadership – Asian Context," was a thought-provoking deep dive into the ways Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion must be reimagined to reflect Asia’s cultural and organisational landscapes. Under the expert guidance of moderator Anne Abraham, distinguished speakers Ruslan Islahudin (PETRONAS), Mahuran Saro Sariki (TalentCorp), Kay Luan TAY (FIDE Forum), and Jukhee Hong (ASEAN-BAC Malaysia) explored the unique opportunities and challenges of adapting global DEI frameworks to our region. The discussion emphasised the need for a region-specific approach: one that respects cultural hierarchies and family-oriented values while ensuring diverse perspectives are included in every boardroom. Key themes included Malaysia’s ongoing DEI progress, the crucial role of governance in fostering inclusive leadership, and positioning DEI not merely as an organisational asset but as a national priority. Audience interaction through live Q&A and Slido underscored the depth of engagement, inviting reflections on how DEI can truly rebalance humanity. As the summit progresses, this session leaves a powerful reminder that inclusive practices are not just about fairness - they are essential drivers of resilience and sustainable growth across Asia. Together, we're setting the stage for a more inclusive, balanced future.🌱 #HumanityRebalanced #APACDEISummit2024 #DEI #LeadWomen #InclusiveLeadership

“Diversity, equity and inclusion is not difficult, but it is complex.” This week, our Managing Partner Yesmith Sánchez (she/her) participated in a panel discussion at Mothers in Business MiB ry seminar on “Inclusivity in Action: Finnish Workplaces” hosted by KONE. The panel, moderated by Zama Ferin, was joined by Terhi Mäkelä (she/her) and Priya Janssen. Yesmith highlighted what makes diversity, equity and inclusion work sustainably in organizations: • Embedding diversity, equity and inclusion into organizational culture requires senior leadership buy-in and resource allocation. • It is important to help people feel comfortable sharing their uniqueness, without forcing them to bring their full selves to work. • Every organization’s journey toward diversity, equity and inclusion is different, and these differences must be approached with empathy and respect. Thank you to MiB ry and KONE for providing a safe space for an honest, vulnerable, and important conversation.

One of my personal pet peeves is the lack of global coverage on Asian leaders by most knowledge publications. Given that Asia will remain the key engine of global economic growth, it is an amiss not to highlight the outstanding leaders and businesses in this dynamic part of the world. As I was hunting down Fortune Most Powerful Women's global list (physical magazines are really hard to find these days), I came across this issue that focuses on powerful female leaders in Asia Pacific - a new Most Powerful Women Asia List (well done Alyson Shontell!) So good to see familiar names and businesses in this issue. 🇸🇬 Singapore - Helen Wong, Group CEO of OCBC - Tan Su Shan, Deputy CEO of DBS Bank - Chin-Yee Png, CFO of Temasek - JoAnn Tan, SVP Finance and CFO, Singapore Airlines - Michelle Cheo, CEO of Mewah International - Pearlyn Phau, Group CEO of Singlife - Grace Chua, CEO Own Brands of FairPrice Group - Feon Ang 洪雍华, MD of LinkedIn And so many other outstanding women in the region such as Kathy Matsui (MPower Partners), Sandhya Devanathan (Meta), Melanie Perkins (Canva), Jane Sun (Trip.com Group), Arundhati Bhattacharya (Salesforce India), Sonia Cheng (Rosewood Hotel Group) etc Representation really matters, and it is TREMENDOUS for these leaders to do what they do. If you're looking for some inspiration today and to learn more about the impactful work driven by powerful women in Asia, grab a copy (I got mine from Kinokuniya!) #WomenInLeadership #WomenInAsia #AsiaLeadership

New York 2023 was a good year! The work with emerging women talents is inspired by many events which started a long time ago. It started with my Father who had 5 daughters telling all of us, to go find our TIARAs. Of course he didn't say that word TIARA. What he said was, go study, get a career and only then, think about marriage. I was the 2nd daughter who took that statement in the literal sense. I left Malaysia to find my TIARA. And, yet, while climbing up the career ladder, I was battling imposter syndrome. I doubted my abilities. I lacked confidence. Perfectionism crippled me. I was constantly searching for affirmation. It came from my colleagues, my Bosses and from my team. I was not enough. And, I dimmed my light. I was looking for my Tiara! Twenty years after this, I become a certified coach. It centered me. With therapy, I began to heal. The cracks in the mirror are still there. Then, I began to coach emerging women talents. And, all the women were brilliant, focused, ambitious and driven in their career aspirations. And, all of them were looking for their Tiara. When we entered the coaching space, they wanted me to coach them to be: ➡ Confident ➡ Assertive ➡ Conversationally savvy ➡ Think and lead strategically ➡ Take on leadership roles at higher corporate spaces. ➡ To lead upwards ➡ To let go of being a functional head of teams. ➡ To get out of self limiting beliefs ➡ To find their wings ➡ To live with balance, grace, confidence, clarity and compassion ➡ And more...... Today is the best day for the women I have coached and continue to. If you are an emerging woman talent seeking to find your wings, set your own Agenda or someone else will. _________________________________ My name is Vimala Suppiah. I am a certified executive leadership coach. I have a proven track record to empower emerging women talents to unleash their potential. Attending events, so you don't have to! A series, pt4. I'm going to share some key takeaways from recent conferences so you can experience the highlights. Feel free to comment/ask me more/debate/keep scrolling/follow along! I was really inspired by Emma Birchall's 'Can you prove it?' talk about interventions for DEI at Ericsson. By testing different methods in their email communications, Ericsson were able to find out what wording could increase applications from women for leadership positions in their organisation by 15%. The most effective method was to target women and say: 1. there were opportunities for progression available, 2. the business wanted them to apply and had targets to increase the representation of women in leadership, AND (and this was the important addition), 3. that the senior management team also wanted them to apply as their performance bonuses were linked to the business targets. It was FREE (yes, free!) for them to implement, and by running control groups, Emma was able to prove that including all three messages was the most effective way to increase applications from women. Side note, Emma also discovered that putting a woman on a poster for applications (because, representation) actually increased the number of MALE applicants...I'll leave you to wonder why! NB. the AI image I have created is IN NO WAY associated with Ericsson's interventions 🤣 #DEI #womeninleadership #interventions
