A great post from Oyin Steve CMP® I would say the majority of people (Newcomers and Canadians), don't land 6 figure jobs right away (if ever). So just a reminder to all Newcomers, it's not the norm and certainly not the norm when you just get out of university or are new to the country. But if you are aiming for those higher paying jobs you need to ask yourself: 1. How is your English? 2. Do you have the language/vocabulary required to market yourself properly in the interview? 3. Do you have the language/vocabulary for the actual job itself? If you are looking at 6 figure jobs you are going to need at least a Canadian Language Benchmark of 8 or higher. #esl #eslteacher #eslteaching #teachingenglish #englishteacher #businessenglishcoach #businessenglish #canadianimmigration #canadianbusinesses #immigrationcanada #immigrants #internationalstudents #manitobabusiness #manitobaimmigration #newcomerstocanada #newcomers

YOUR FIRST JOB AS AN IMMIGRANT I see many interesting posts on LinkedIn from immigrants who landed amazing jobs (defined as 6-figure jobs in their dream companies) as newcomers. While this is great, it doesn’t happen to the best of us, albeit the robust academic qualifications and professional experience we bring to Canada. Here’s a reminder not to compare your journey with those of others. If you got your dream job within the first three months of landing in Canada, that is awesome. But if you didn’t or haven’t, your goal should not necessarily be to have your dream job but to have: 1️⃣ An employer that believes in you enough to take a chance on you by giving you your first professional career opportunity in Canada. 2️⃣ A manager that gives you room to make mistakes and fail forward. 3️⃣ A cross-functional team that welcomes your unique world view while helping you integrate into the Canadian labour market. 4️⃣ The freedom to build your professional network as you seek growth opportunities in your career. 5️⃣ An income that allows you pay your bills without worrying. If your first professional job gives you three out of these five, that is a tremendous win. While you might not be comfortable sharing that on LinkedIn because you think it’s comparatively lower than other people’s wins or because it’s considerably lower than where you’re coming from, take the time to celebrate it in a way you feel comfortable. Celebrate the small wins in your journey!
