The aim was to get students to think about what healthy and unhealthy relationships look like, and to start a conversation around what to expect in a good relationship. Welcome comms is a HUGE part of our onboarding process. It’s not *just* a series of emails - it’s a mammoth and complex data-driven project that involves mapping out: • what course starts when (we have early starters in August) • what course-specific info those students need (e.g. DBS checks for our health professions students) • what campus they’re studying at • whether they are a home or international student, or a Degree Apprentice • at what point did they roll in to our system and what information do they need at this stage • and soooo much more… Our goal is to ensure ALL students receive tailored and relevant information, at the right time, to help them feel informed and well-supported as they start this journey. A huge thank you to Siobhan and the team for delivering this incredibly important work.
✉ All our new UWE students have now received three emails welcoming them to the university and giving them all the info they need to get settled into uni life! So, so pleased with the open rates (up to 89%) and click to open rates (up to 44%), hopefully meaning they are arriving at University of the West of England ready to explore campus, meet new people and succeed in their studies. Any UWE staff reading this - if any of your new students have any questions please encourage them to check these emails, as they may find the answer!

📲 Big milestone achieved this week as the new and improved UWE Bristol app launches. The app had become a stagnated signposting experience for our students so a HUGE thank you to Will James Andrews for his work on this project. Many of the improvements are direct responses to user testing, so we can ensure we are meeting the needs and expectations of our students. These improvements come at a core time in the academic year with thousands of new students set to join us next month. 🎉 From next week our new, arriving students will start receiving Welcome emails from us to help get them ready for life at UWE Bristol! As anyone in the HE sector knows, engaging with students and keeping them engaged can be challenging, so it's something we've thought carefully about and have created a series of emails which we really hope cuts through all the noise and speaks to our audience. 10moWe've seen an increase in students presenting to our Anti-Sexual Violence Advisor with questions around healthy relationships, so this is clearly an area of concern within our community. We took this opportunity to share a new sexual violence support postcard with students as well as our general support leaflet. Both male and female students (or those who identify as) commented on the importance of the topic and were pleased that we were talking to our community about this in-person.
