When it comes to equity education, senior hires and junior hires should NOT be treated equally. This might seem like a hot take, but hear me out…🌶️ I once spoke to a Founder whose first port of call was (unsurprisingly) making a couple of key leadership hires. They built a hiring process and pulled together an overview of their equity philosophy and granting system to discuss with candidates. And it worked a treat 🥳 A few months later, they were ready to make their first junior hires. They forwarded the same “equity brief” to the hiring team, who relayed the same message to candidates. Yet this time, the response was quite different. Inadvertently, they had made the (often incorrect) assumption that junior and senior candidates would have the same foundational equity knowledge. And since most of the candidates were graduates interviewing for their first “proper” job, they didn’t ask questions or show any confusion because they were afraid of jeopardising their candidacy. As a result, they either: 😬 Withdrew from the process prematurely. 😬 Filled in the gaps with online research (and were misinformed). 😬 Kept quiet until they signed their contract (and then until they were onboarded…and so on). In comparison, senior candidates usually won’t need as much contextual information as junior candidates. Plus, if they don’t understand something, they’ll be far more confident asking questions or speaking to the executive search recruiter they’re liaising with. And if they’d like to negotiate a part of the agreement, they’re in a much better position to do so. So, don’t forget to tailor your equity education piece depending on vacancy level, ensure that candidates thoroughly understand what they’re being offered, and encourage them to ask questions without fear of it affecting their standing. #EmployeeEquity #ESOPs #EquityEducation

Companies are firing recent grads at alarming rates!!! So says Newsweek/Intelligent.com. This topic is near and dear to my heart having counseled 10,000+ students LIVE, 50,000+ with EYP curriculum and training, and millions through advice via media exposure. I've literally had students shyly approach me crying and even shaking with anxiety, not feeling ready. Most interventions designed to support "career readiness" are simply not enough to build confidence and clarity. It's clear that the gap between education and the workforce needs to be bridged. Both educators and employers need to prioritize preparing young professionals for success—not just with knowledge but with context, practical skills, communication, and professionalism. Newsweek article published yesterday: "A whopping six in 10 employers had already fired college graduates who were hired in 2024. One in seven said they might refrain from hiring new college grads next year as well. However, companies have an equal responsibility to prepare recent graduates for their particular workplace and give them the best chance to succeed."
