This article by Ansys does a great job highlighting work at Spark Photonics and Spark Photonics Foundation to move the #photonics and #semiconductors industries forward, targeting both the #technical side and the #workforce side. My thanks to our friends at Ansys for supporting these two Spark endeavors!
How do you design photonic devices at the micron scale? Spark Photonics has the answer, with help from simulation. "We depend on simulation for iterating and coming up with novel components, then taking those components all the way to the layout stage, where the circuit is reduced to a blueprint that is sent to the foundry for fabrication. Ansys Lumerical works seamlessly with our layout software as well, so it’s a great end-to-end design flow." - Kevin McComber, CEO of Spark Photonics. Explore how the company utilizes simulation and the Ansys Startup Program to optimize its designs and train professionals, fueling future innovation. https://ansys.me/442Dtbo

Time to tease your brain with a photonics riddle! Under silicon's shield, I watch with great skill, A single photon’s presence I detect at will. Even in darkness, I catch the faintest light, Counting each photon with accuracy and might. What am I? If you guessed Silicon SPAD, you are right! And we have a webinar next week that will unravel the mystery of the Dark Count Rate (DCR) in Silicon SPADs that you will not want to miss! Single-photon avalanche Detectors (SPADs) are highly sensitive devices used for detecting single photons, but they can also generate avalanches in dark conditions due to the thermal generation of electron-hole pairs. This webinar will explore the dark count rate (DCR) simulation in Silicon SPADs using Ansys Lumerical CHARGE. Participants will learn about the workflow for simulating the electric field and thermal generation rates, then calculate the avalanche triggering probability and DCR. Register Today! https://ansys.me/3X5vubF #SPAD #SPADDarkCountRate #Photonics
