100% Agree! Collaboration and diversity are crucial for advancing clinical trials. As a former clinical research coordinator, I've seen the frustration that patients and site staff can experience throughout the clinical research process. This frustration is understandable, especially in rare disease research, as the process can often be lengthy, with patients having to navigate numerous obstacles just to have a chance to participate in the trial. However, I am confident that we can improve this experience for patients, sites, and sponsors. There is so much to be done, which is why it is so fulfilling to work with a team that values these efforts and works hard every day to improve the process. It's not just about finding patients—it's about connecting the right patient to the right trial, minimizing the risks of screen failure, disengagement, and dissatisfaction.

Our empathetic 1:1 approach, led by our patient success coordinators, is invaluable in helping patients navigate study inclusion obstacles and improving the engagement of rare disease patients. 4. 🤝 Long-term partnerships are key. The conference highlighted the importance of finding the right partners from the start. When sponsors, patients, and vendors work together seamlessly, everyone wins. Really enjoyed being a part of the panel discussion today at Global Clinical Trials Connect 2024 in London. I was proud to be in the panel together with diane driver and Viraj Rajadhyaksha who both have lots of knowledge and experience in the subject of Critical Success Factors while Planning for Site Selection and Patient Recruitment. Our panel discussion centred around how to plan for the right site selection when preparing for the patient recruitment. This quickly turned into a talk about the future of trial sites and it presented some interesting questions; -         Will we see more use of satellite sites in future clinical trials? -         Will pharmacies to some extend accompany regular trial sites such as hospitals and clinics? -         Will “site centricity” become an increasingly important term to focus on when running a clinical trial? (I believe so due to the pressure that many health care systems are experiencing) We also got around the future of clinical trial design and how this might help to recruit a more diverse trial participant population, and how the flexibility, that a hybrid trial design offers, would in most cases be the preferred option so each participant could choose whether or not they would prefer to visit the site or participate from their home. The journey of clinical trials is one of dedication, hope, and tireless effort. Recently, we had the privilege of having a couple of the PIs we work with visit the Clinibase office, and share the outcomes of their trials and the touching patient stories that highlight the true impact of this work. One story shared was about a patient with full-body, itchy atopic dermatitis, unsolvable by any existing treatments. After participating in a clinical trial, their life transformed from unbearable discomfort to normalcy - even a wedding! These moments remind us why we all do what we do. Working in clinical trials means dedicating countless hours with no guaranteed results. Yet, when breakthroughs happen, they are nothing short of miraculous. It’s a testament to the relentless effort and commitment of everyone involved—from the PIs and site teams to sponsors and CROs. Open, two-way communication is crucial in this field. Ensuring stakeholders understand each other’s processes and needs is key to success. From the recruitment perspective, the collective dedication and collaboration are what have led to outcomes, even for trials deemed “un-recruitable”. We are grateful to be part of this journey and to witness the incredible impact clinical trials have on people’s lives.
