#NSWAthletics is excited to announce the expansion of the Junior Development Program (JDP) to Tamworth, bringing this tailored initiative to more young athletes in Regional NSW! Placing a strong focus on gathering valuable data to understand how physical growth and maturation influences athletic performance during adolescence, this initiative aims to equip coaches with deeper insights, enabling them to better support each athlete’s development and make informed decisions that guide their long-term athletic journey. Through the JDP, we aim to address the strength and conditioning side of athlete development, offering a comprehensive program that combines education with hands-on guidance in movement literacy and gym-based movement patterns. The JDP has been running successfully at the Centre of Excellence in Sydney Olympic Park, providing a fantastic foundation for gym-based training tailored to growth and maturation. It all begins with an initial testing session to assess growth and maturation, allowing us to group participants into one of three levels. Each level focuses on specific needs based on biological age and emotional maturity, ensuring that training is both appropriate and effective.
