Big Problems in K12 are complex & messy - like hallway & passing period chaos. Eliminating this does more to improve classroom climate & emotional well-being than any SEL program ever will. #google and #microsoft are starting to provide AI functions for teachers that niche edtech startups were. This doesn't mean #artificialintelligence opportunities in #edtech are gone for us mere mortals. It means the opportunities to solve small and easy problems may be. But educators know struggling schools won't be turned around by lesson plan generators. Countless opportunities for ai to help schools solve The Big Problems still exist. You just need to know where to look. Like, for example, in school hallways. 😉 #venturecapital #educationalleadership #educationreform

Today I attended a Microsoft TEALS Program Lunch & Learn in Houston. One of the #volunteers who spoke, Russell de Pina, shared how #representation is important. This is why I volunteered to support #students and #teachers at the Kansas State School for the Blind. This school year, it didn't work out because the morning section didn't make (don't worry, the afternoon class is in good hands). I met other inspiring attendees. It's common to hear that #AI will take all the #coding #jobs. (Spoiler: it can't now and may never be able to.) The truth is, learning to #code is also about learning #problemSolving and #computationalThinking #skills. Breaking down big problems into smaller, more easily solved problems. Understanding what parts of a problem can be worked on simultaneously (either by the same person or by different team members) and what parts have to be worked on sequentially.
