What's your project management methodology? Don't have one? Join us..... Yesterday we heard about Initiating a project. CONGRATULATIONS! Your project has been accepted. Now what?! The next phase is Planning. In this phase we firm up the data in our project charter. We start to put things together in a work breakdown structure (think of a org chart for the different levels of your project) and eventually into a project plan. Don't worry about that project plan. It doesn't have to be fancy. At the end of the day it's just a list of all the tasks that need to be completed, due dates, resources to complete them, notes and some sort of evaluation of the status of the task. Many people get very worried about creating the project plan and the Gantt chart. Never fear, Excel is here (or Monday.com, Airtable, Jira, MS Planner, etc, etc)! Yes, you can use MS Project if you are comfortable. More often than not, using one of the alterative solutions previously listed works as well if not better than Project. (Not throwing you shade MS Project, but you are just a bit overly complex for an everyday user). So get going on that project plan because the real work starts happening next! #katielabedz #projectmanagement #learningtolean

𝗨𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. Ever wondered why every project manager nowadays seems to rely on an overloaded and confusing Gantt chart? Sure, they help outline task dependencies. But when it comes to mildly complex projects, they’re more trouble than they’re worth. 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰—𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿. 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝘀, 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀. Here’s what I’ve learned after years of navigating Gantt charts (and better alternatives): 1. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁 📊 ↳ For anything more than a basic project, they quickly turn into visual clutter. 2. 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 📝 ↳ Sometimes, a well-structured task list or timeline does the job better. 3. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗸𝘀 🔍 ↳ Especially when presenting to non-PM stakeholders, keep things clean and digestible. Want to see the rest? I’ve broken down Gantt charts (and why they often fail) in this slide deck.👇 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗼-𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀? 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! 🔄
