"We connected well, but right now we won't be working with them."
When Divyank Jain said this on our internal sales group, I was sad.
But the next messages made me happy.
"I suggested: instead of hiring an external agency, they must have at least one marketing resource. Once that is there, we would love to collab.
It has not worked well in the past. No one is there to give you right references. Would not check work or give regular feedback."
He was on point.
Founders are mostly overburdened and often come at the last hour.
And we work on it just because we want to keep the relationship intact.
While it's not their fault, that's not the right process for executing marketing campaigns.
Hence the middle layer is so important.
A manager or senior manager.
Not a junior executive: they can't take any decisions by themselves.
Not a VP: they don't have the bandwidth to focus.
If you're hiring an agency, please make this hire first.
