***** With this post I will hopefully make a few new friends, but I will definitely make some enemies. ***** Those of you that have done IT project planning have at some point said, “How are these resources [contractors/consultants/specialists], so expensive?” Here’s a behind the curtain look on resource pricing and how to drop it. This is where I’ll probably make the enemies. The average VMS markup is 35-40%. So, if the contractor/consultant/specialist is getting paid $100 hourly, you are getting charged $135-140 hourly. Keep in mind, this is just for people augmenting your existing staff and isn’t for the consulting companies. You can assume their markup will be even higher.
