⚾ We're so grateful to Team USA's Monica Abbott OLY for visiting Pleasant Lea Elementary to talk about her experience playing softball in the Olympics. 🥈 Not only do third graders learn about the Olympic games in their curriculum, they learned about perseverance, hard work and bravery. #R7Proud https://lnkd.in/dPWAsAbu

I help students in grades 8-12 achieve superior academic results through high-impact tutoring, test preparation, and gamified learning in the classroom.
🎾 PART 1/4 🎾 Are students getting enough practice? More importantly, are they getting the right kind? I was an early, frustrated tennis player – and it’s impacted how I tutor. As a kid, I loved tennis – during the summer, I played in a lot of junior camps, and in the winter, I was able to play in indoor clinics and took lessons. When I started high school, I confidently went out for the tennis team, figuring I would be one of the better players. Surely with my superior training, I would crush the competition. How wrong I was! Tennis season began with a series of singles matches against the other players on the team. The outcome of those matches determined everyone's position on the team ladder, including who made varsity. With so much on the line, challenge matches were tough mentally. (Very similar to taking standardized tests…) I was quickly demoralized by the outcome of my matches. I couldn’t understand how, despite my years of very expensive training, I was losing to kids who had some natural ability, but who hadn't been coached to hit a proper forehand. I blamed myself. If I was losing to these kinds of players, the only explanation I saw was that I wasn’t cut out for tennis. Eventually I lost my love of the game, and I quit playing after high school. Fortunately, I've rediscovered the sport as an adult -- and it's impacted how I think about coaching our students for math, STEM, test prep, and more... To be continued... 🎾 🎾 #tutoring #testprep #tennis #tennislife #coaching #stemeducation #matheducation

2010 Commonwealth Games Decathlon Bronze Medallist and Head of Athlete Development at Aspire Academy, Qatar
Some more great photos from yesterday's workshop at Shekou!
Another action-packed Athletics CPD Workshop, this time for the staff of Shekou International School! The school also adopted our Complete Athletics Curriculum to encourage student-led learning while delivering high-quality athletics lessons to students in the future! 📚 During the workshop, former International Decathlete Martin Brockman provided the teachers with in-depth knowledge of various athletic events and guided them on how they can help their students excel. We'd like to thank the school for inviting us! The staff showed great enthusiasm for learning, and we're looking forward to seeing the school train & produce some great athletes in the future! 👏 #Athletics #AthleticPerformance #SportsPerformance #PhysicalEducation #SportsEducation #SchoolLeadership #SportsCoaching #SchoolSports #TrackandField #EducationalLeadership

Will my children make it as professional tennis players? Both my children train at a County academy. They're pretty good and enjoy it. They train with top juniors and have a set up that can take them forward. I asked a several parents recently what percentage of us with children in the academy are aiming for their children to make it to a professional level and making a living (meaning top 100 in the world). Let's say there are 50 children and 50 parents. One said 90%. The other said 40%, another 10%. I think 10-20% is about right. Put into perspective. The odds of becoming a professional is less than 1% of tennis players who compete at the junior level. The odds of making top 100 is even slimmer. The odds of winning a Grand Slam is similar to winning the lottery I would imagine. Tennis is an expensive sport when you have ambitions and take it seriously. I know of one parent spending over £20k per child each year. The financial costs alone will preclude most from ever succeeding. I dream of my children making it of course. What parent doesn't? It really isn't the aim. A scholarship is more realistic. Right now, they're too young to think that far ahead. Coaches say, the most important thing is they enjoy the game - this is very true. All I ask is they do their best, learn from the journey and see what happens.. Happy Friday everyone. #parents #children #success

For parents guiding their young athletes through the college recruitment process, insights from Eva Dorr of Harvard Women's Hockey could be invaluable. Eva's method is both straightforward and effective: 1️⃣ Encourage your child to be proactive: Regular and consistent follow-ups with coaches can make a difference. 2️⃣ Highlight their unique strengths: Excellent academic achievements, standout performance in tournaments, and professional interactions can set them apart. Eva's journey illustrates the importance of presenting a well-rounded profile — emphasizing academics, athletics, and character. Coaches seek student-athletes who demonstrate dedication both on and off the field. Equip your child with the right strategy to shine. 🏒📚🌟 #NCAA #WomensHockey #Hockey #HockeyRecruiting #HockyLife

Do you remember Mo’ne Davis? ⚾️🧢🤔 Yeah, Mo’ne took the sports world by storm in 2014 when she competed with boys at the age of 13 in the Little League World Series. She was the first girl to earn a win and shutout as a pitcher. She completely dominated! Afterwards, she’d publish a book, be featured on the cover of @sportsillustrated, and played softball on scholarship at Hampton University (an HBCU 😁). Now, she’s on academic scholarship at Columbia University in New York to study to sports management. 🙏🏾 And no, I don’t have anything bad to present as an update. This a celebration of her excellence and the excellence of her immediate community and family. ✊🏾 This is also a reminder to all parents of athletes that our kids are STUDENTS first. Athletic excellence translates to academic and career excellence as well. Our kids HAVE to go harder off the court/field than they go in it. Let Mo’ne serve as a reminder of how that’s done! ✊🏾⚾️ 🚨 BTW… check out her recent article in The NY Times. #littleleagueworldseries #baseball #softball #college #hbcu #columbia #sportsagent #blackhistory #blackgirlsrock #blackgirls #ushistory

During USA Basketball Camp, we do a daily workshop to cover the word of the day and address any issues that we see infiltrating the attitudes and chemistry of our campers. As former professional players, playing basketball at every level imaginable in multiple countries, we hope to provide our vast experience for the benefit of every level of player. Most of the kids that come through USA Basketball Camp, are underdogs. Either they are just figuring out that they love basketball...or they have aspirations of playing at a higher level and realize where they are at now, is insufficient to get them there. Whatever the motivation, the sklil set level, or the experience of the players, you can always learn something to add to your tool kit of skills and abilities. Analysing the game in real time, and the ability to implement those changes quickly, is the highest level of execution. This is literally why you practice. Honing your skills in practice, breaking down the obstacles that might present themselves, creating various scenarios and then applying what you have learned…in real time. During a season, most European club teams at the lower levels do not have the gym time to get into this kind of detail. We break it all down over a week, from 9 am to 4 pm (day camp), or 9 am to 6 pm (overnight camp). That's 6 to 8 hours of basketball each day, 30 to 40 hours of basketball related skills, drills, games and exercises, supervised and executed by ex-professional players with a combined 45 years in the game. We've played on 4 different continents, in a host of countries, and in leagues at the highest levels, in each country we've played in. What do you want to learn about yourself What drives you to compete? Whatever your motivations may be, if you were unsure about your future, when you leave USA Basketball Camp, you'll know what you REALLY want from the game of basketball, sports education alternatives, and life in general! "LET'S GO BABY!"..."Make your next move, the best move." https://lnkd.in/eW-EpJb6 #usabasketballcamp #smbgeducation #smbgbasketball #smbgteam #youthbasketball #frenchbasketball #frenchsports

Winning or Losing A Game! These are the two extremes. Whenever a child competes, we frequently question, "Have you won an award or lost it?" The child eventually develops a mental block from this practice and enters every competition with the sole goal of "winning." He feels unworthy after losing the tournament, and it gets harder for him to accept reality. However, why the needless pressure? Do we really need to sow the idea that our goal in competing is to win? Rather than that, why don't we just celebrate the child's courage in entering the competition? More and more children will be able to participate if we foster a culture at home and in schools that value participation above winning and losing. This will lead to good sportsmanship skills. The capacity for group dynamics by enabling them to take risks and deal with obstacles in real life. #pypeducator #healthycompetition #praiseparticipation #sportsmanship

Celebrating Academic Excellence at Queens Athletics! Incredibly proud to announce that the Queens University of Charlotte Department of Athletics has achieved another milestone in academic excellence! Our student-athletes have set a new benchmark, recording a phenomenal 3.45 GPA for the 2023 fall semester, the highest since our 3.40 GPA in the fall of 2020. Our student-athletes continue to show incredible dedication and resilience, achieving remarkable success in the classroom. This semester marks a testament to our commitment to the DI transition, setting new benchmarks in academics, athletics, and community service. Our success is a result of intentional efforts to foster a supportive learning environment. I invite our fans and families to experience the amazing impact our community is making. The women's club triathlon team leads with a stellar 3.86 GPA, followed by women's swimming at 3.77. Men's triathlon and men's tennis trail closely at 3.72 and 3.71 respectively, while women's lacrosse rounds out the top five with an impressive 3.65 GPA. Notably, all our athletic teams maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, aiming for this honor at the end of the spring season for the first time in program history. Remarkably, 101 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, with 177 achieving between 3.75 and 3.99, and a total of 449 achieving 3.3 or higher. Each group of these high-achieving student-athletes is now eligible for membership in our prestigious academic societies. This achievement follows our 2022-2023 season with a 3.37 GPA and continues our legacy of 12 consecutive seasons with a department GPA at or above 3.0. It's an honor to witness our athletes' unwavering commitment to excellence both on and off the field. #QUeenCity #RoyalsRise #CLT
