Co-Founder Momentum to Change I Change Advisor I ICF Certified Coach (ACC) Helping educational leaders reinvent their organizations for the future of work.
The coaching industry is at a cross roads. So many are confused as to what the title means and where the best use for it is. What coaching is not: - Giving people advice - A simple mindset of curiosity or question asking - Mentoring others - A quick cash scheme in exchange for a perfect program or approach - Just a skillset like active listening or motivational interviewing What sets a professional coach apart is: - Understanding and practicing creating trusting relationships rooted in psychological safety - A coaching presence that knows when to use silence, encouragement, challenges, empathy or kindness at the right time - A commitment to professional development AND personal development - Being flexible, adaptable and patient while clients walk the path into the unknown In the fast-paced world of work, coaching can feel like a mental time out, giving clients the chance to take a breathe, reflect and plan outside of the pressures of daily life. To get clear on what they really want and why. And help them begin to walk towards that even when it scares them. If you're an educational leader with direct reports that come to you regularly for support, but you feel like you don't have anyone to go to when you need support, coaching is for you! Everyone needs a sounding board to help them through challenges in life, you don't have to wear all of the challenges on your sleeve. At Momentum to Change we help organizations lead change internally to prepare for the future and along the way we give every leader involved the opportunity to work with a coach.

President | We train, mentor and supervise professional coaches thru our ICF accredited holistic coach education.
Misunderstandings people have about being coached Here’s 3 misunderstandings that we often hear about coaching: 1. That the Coach is going to tell you what to do. Coaching is about you coming up with your own goals and insights. In coaching, we trust the Coachee to be their own leader while walking alongside as the Coach using a coaching framework and coaching skills to support the Coachee. Our philosophy is that you know yourself best and can access your own inner guidance, resources and strengths to resolve or create what you want. 2. That coaching and counseling are the same. They are not. Coaching is focused on clear agreements for the call including a measure, focused on current and future topics and has a strong accountability piece on taking action in your life now from insights gathered during the coaching session. It's less about the past, processing or talking about issues and more focused on what you want to create or be experiencing right now. All modalities have value so make sure that coaching is the right fit. 3. That it costs a lot to coach. Sure you can find Coaches who have been coaching for many years with great credentials. However, there are many people working towards ICF credentialing that need coaching experience hours and are doing so at lower rates. Also prices vary depending on niche and experience of the Coach. Know that you can receive a great quality of coaching from someone who has completed an ICF accredited coaching program. By completing a Discovery Call with a Coach, we can work through some of these misunderstandings and create clear agreements with new Clients. When someone is nudged into coaching by their company for whatever reason, for the coach, it can feel like trying to start a conversation with someone who has one foot out the door. Unlike clients who come to coaching on their own with a desire to grow, involuntary clients might feel skeptical or resistant. A coach may need to take a special approach when working with someone for whom coaching sessions have been mandated to help them find their own reasons to engage. Below, 15 members of Forbes Coaches Council share how they work with involuntary coaching clients, helping them explore and grow at their own pace even if it wasn’t their choice to start the journey.

Unpopular opinion: Coaching is a passion, a love, and at times, can be challenging. As a personal and professional development coach, it's the 'AHA' moments clients experience, the creation of new habits, and the life pivots that align with their true selves that define their healing journey. Coaching is essential because it provides the structured support, accountability, and expert guidance needed to unlock potential and achieve goals. Successful people engage in coaching all the time because they understand the immense value it brings. Coaching helps individuals identify and overcome barriers, build resilience, and cultivate a growth mindset. It fosters self-awareness, enhances decision-making skills, and accelerates personal and professional growth. The transformation clients undergo—from gaining clarity and confidence to achieving their aspirations—is profound. However, when clients show up unwilling to move the needle from trauma to intentionality, it can be frustrating. A coach can guide you, provide strategies, and be your biggest cheerleader, but they can't do the work for you. Coaches have done and continue to do their own work; now it's your turn. Coaching is a sport itself, and players who no longer want to sit on the sidelines understand when it's time to play. Embrace coaching, and you'll discover a path to becoming the best version of yourself, achieving extraordinary results, and living a fulfilling life. Coaches make you 10x's better. if they don't that's not the coach for you.
